Feedback on Brickhouse blind???
« on: June 12, 2011, 07:24:47 AM »
The old Ameristep Doghouse blind finally gave up the ghost.  Looking for feed back from Brickhouse users before buying a new one.  I loved the Doghouse, but it was a little small for two people.  It is definitely my fall back choice.  What say ye on the Brickhouse....

Denny,

I have almost no experience with blinds but I have been banned from treestands by my doctor & my wife.  The Doghouse blind you where using, is it decent for one guy to hunt from, either with a longgun or crossbow?

thanks

Bikerbeans,

I loved mine to death and got 6 years out of it from early October to the end of January.  It was still in good shape, but the door zipper broke out.  I hunt with a crossbow out of mine, (and muzzleloaders) but you have to be careful about how you lean it, or the broadhead can punch a hole in it.  Mine had 2 of those, but they never tore any further.  I keep a bag chair in mine, and put a Lil Buddy heater in later in the season.  I got the hose kit and hook it up to a 20# cylinder and it lasts most of the rest of the season.  Don't leave it out in the sun, I've seen some of them turn an orange brown that can be seen a long ways off.  If you live anywhere near Shelby, the Sportsman's Den should have them on sale.  They have a few listed on e-Bay for $49.95 plush shipping.  I'd like to find out about the Brick house (mostly about the windows) 'cause I got a couple of grandsons gonna be starting out soon.  The doghouse was big enough for me and a 5 year old grandson easy.  Plenty of room for one, cozy and out of the wind, too.  They'll spoil you.  I can only recommend Ameristep.  I bought a knock off from Sportsmans Guide and it only lasted one and a half years.  Make sure you take it down (and dry it out) when you quit hunting and it'll last a long time.  Good hunting to you...only 3 1/2 months away!

Dinny,

Thanks for the info on the doghouse.  Sounds like the only problem is getting too comfortable and spending the hunt sleeping in the blind.  Actually I don't sleeping all morning in the woods would qualify as a problem. ;D

Yeah Biker, that has happened a time or 2.  I justify it with the old adage "The worst day of hunting is always better than the best day at work"!  This old fart has paid his deer hunting dues and will take cozy ANY day!
