Wanted To Find - Gunsmith in NY / PA area
« on: June 13, 2011, 03:46:25 AM »
Now that I've finally settled on a cartridge for my recently-purchased commercial Mauser action, and this being the first custom work on a rifle that I've ever comissioned, can you folks out ther recommend (based on first hand experience please) a riflesmith who can do the work.
I sense the urge already for some to respond "Anyone can rebarrel a gun who calls themself a gunsmith."
With all do respect, please refrain.
I did not mention my trials with handguns and shotguns and here, I learned the hard way.  Yes, you'd also think that "anyone can open up your chokes on your fine old Fox double."  No they can't.  That's why I respectfully ask for first hand recommendations only, and the closer to the Upstate NY area or upper PA the better as well.
Thanks everyone.

Here's a list it has quite a few in Pa. Most of them specialize in benchrest and high end varmint rigs, if they can't help they steer you in the right direction.

Inthebeech:  how far into upstate NY were you thinking.  There is a gunsmith just outside Amsterdam, NY who has worked on a couple of Mauser rifles for me and has rebarrelled quite a few for other customers.  I don't know how far you had thought of traveling but if this is of interest to you then pm me and I will kick over his name, address and telephone #.  HTH and good luck.
