The model 19 is great. I have an older 66 which is its stainless counterpart. I believe that you cannot go wrong with it. I prefer the stainless becuase it's diswasher safe.
Get a set of grips that fit your hand good and then start shooting. You will own one of the finest shooters ever built.

Or should I just keep my Dan Wesson .357 mag.  Or should I look at a model 27?

Dunno what the heck the -6 changed but the M19 and the stainless counter part M66 are fine guns. I won by first ever shooting trophy with an M19 around 45 years ago. These days I've kinda gone the stainless route so rather than M19s I have M66s.

I like the K-frame .357s best.

I think the K frame 357 magnum is the finest ever built. There will be the heretics and blasphemers that disagree of course. ;)

The K frame has an outstanding smooth trigger that just gets better with age. They are big enough to fill the average hand yet small enough to be carried daily.

When I was sent over to Iraq in the first dust up, I took my Model 66 and a box of 357 -158 semi wadcutters. This was my OMG I am really in big trouble now gun. The men in the security detail remarked it was the same model that was in thier inventory that had just been recently removed.
When I was sent over in the second dust up, the guys in the security detail mentioned it was a fine gun and they remembered the same model being in thier armory years ago.

Mine is an inheritance from a retired El Paso deputy, and heck yes I'll give it up when you can pry it from my cold dead hand.

Got my Model 19 6" in the early 70's.    Killed my share of mule deer with it and shot pistol matches with it as well.     Always could be counted on, so I carried it often until maybe the mid 80's when my long time love affair with the SA's moved back on top.   To me there is no advantage to the 27's larger N frame for a 357, and the 19 is lighter to carry.   As others have said, I liked the K frame Smiths in my DA days, the only exception being my Model 29's.   Was hard not to like them as well... I probably shot more matches with them than the 19, and hunted everything from wild boar to bear with them.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

Model 19's are great! Only one load that it didn't like, 158 gr SWC at 1,550 fps. Too much recoil for DA work. I carried one as a duty gun for years. I have a nickel finished 19 that I will never part with.
