« Reply #28 on: Today at 10:36:52 AM »QuoteWell, a week later and my action hadn't shown up so I made another call. The woman said "It should have been sent back but shows it's still in the repair shop". Said she was going to E-mail the repair shop to have it sent back. I also asked if she could tell me if the receiver had been rockwell hardness tested and she said she was the longest employed rep there and had never heard of rockwell hardness tests, so she couldn't say, but said it was probably magnafluxed. What a joke, I hope I never have to send another gun back to them.[/color]
Fastchicken, uneducated reps, one hand knows not what the other is doing at Remington. Magnafluxing is to detect cracks or hidden impurities in steel, Both of which your receiver seems to obviously have in your photo, a clear crack 3/4 inch long and what looks like visable pits can be seen with the naked eye.
To what address did you mail your receiver to? I went to a Phil Pilkington gunsmithing seminar with a couple of fellows from the Remington Custom Shop, and I'm within 40 miles of Madison, NC, Remington's headquarters.
Yes, Swampman, from a strength standpoint the Ruger cast flat bottom receiver is stronger than the Remington round bar stock receiver. Never heard anything about barrel installation or removal damaging a Ruger 77 receiver, have seen first hand examples of damage to Remington's receivers from barrel removal/installs.
