Question about AR-15 uppers
« on: June 14, 2011, 04:03:54 PM »
Hello All,

I've recently picked up my first AR-15 rifle...it is a S&W M&P 15R in 5.45x39.  The gun is great and I'd now like to get a new caliber, but don't know exactly what all I need.

Will I be ok if I buy a complete upper, or do I need buy other stuff too?

Also, if it matters, i'd like to eventually get 223 and 450bushmaster, or 50 beowulf

Thank you,
300

You should be able to pick up a complete upper as you noted. BUT read what it comes with - sights ? flat top or A2 reciver, type gas block - flay , A2 or with rail, type handguard free float vs standard , M4 feed ramps or not etc. Make sure the upper you order has the pin size your lower has, most are small but Colt had over sized and some guns had small rear and larger front. Some suppliers have non Colt uppers to fit Colt lowers , no big deal just check . MOD 1 , Bravo, M & A and a hundred others have adds that can help see the differences. Shop for price and quality as it can vary. Also I like to stick with Military spec. parts as they should fit togather well.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !
