It happens a lot with politically correct police chiefs. This usually occurs when the police chiefs/commissioners, order rank and file cops to provide background for politicians when they roll out new anti-gun legislation. The politicians just use the cops as a cover or background/"photo op", they don't care if the cop is personally against the legislation being introduced. The presence of the LEOs makes it seem like the rank and file cops endorse the anti-gun legislation being proposed. This is why the previous national FOP president was voted out, in favor of the current FOP President Chuck Canterbury, who is pro NRA, pro civilian gun ownership.
I applaud the captain for his courage in standing up for his convictions, and hope he wins his lawsuit.

So are you going to the next KKK meeting your boss tells you to attend? What about the local Nazi Party meeting? Are you going to the next NAACP meeting your boss tells you to attend? See how silly your words are using the term bigot because someone does not want to attend or force people under his command to attend a function that is at odds with their personal beliefs? If you refused to attend any of these meeting because of your beliefs, then a bunch of folks could call you a bigot too. As long as the police do their sworn duty, everything else is silly waste of time and money.

If we are to have seperation of church and state then has to be seperation of ALL churches and state. This seperation would also include your favored people the islamofacists and their churches. I don't think any of police in this area has anyone in charge stupid enough to get involved in this type of public relation horse dung in the first place. Whoever the police captain's boss is, is a complete idiot and just wasted a ton of tax payers money going through court soon...and will lose anyway.

Wow, that is over the line, even for you. Because he wouldn't go, or FORCE his men to go, he is a bigot? Did you even notice this part of the article:

"Jordan has said the Islamic Society scheduled the event to show its appreciation for the officers' response to a threat against it."

So, the officers are willing to do their job and defend the place. But, because they don't want to go there for a party, they're bigots. Is that really what you are saying? Talk about intolerance and bigotry. Sheesh.

I didnt ask about replacing people I didnt ask about job descriptions and I asked this question outside of a religiuos context. I am not concerned with where a true christian would or would not go if invited.

Although this issue has nothing to with whether this policeman is or is not a Christian.
Tulsa's police chief is not elected he is hired, and no hired employee should be made to play politics. It is unethical to make them do so and it looks like Tulsa's city government has some serious ethics issues.

Sorry, I don't buy it.
