I haven't heard about the draw yet but I've never drawn a cow elk tag.  Congrats and I'm a little jealous...

Guess I should make up another of the 32 ACP chamber adaptors for you to use, don't want to ruin too much meat with the 405.  Larry

Thanks guys, we used to hunt this area for many years, took lots of elk and deer, mostly cow elk with an occasional spike bull and a 5-point bull one year, it was open to any elk and 2-pt(western count) or better for bucks,  then they changed it to 3-pt minimum for both deer and elk and started issuing permits for cow elk!  :( Haven't drawn a cow tag yet.....until now.

I drew blanks on elk and antelope (Colorado resident).  I still have the leftover  elk draw, or will just go along and hunt small game.  It is usually my brother and one pard.  One year I ended up alone, arguments are shorter that way.   This year brother got a ML, pard got 1st separate.  Usually we go to the Flattops area, Deep Lake, for you who know.  The other places are Dunckley Pass, or 18/181 where we went last year.  We have'nt hunted Gore for a long time.  When we knew a local we hunted December in 3 around Craig.

If it is not too nosy;  what state and area?

I learned a long time ago(when I started getting old) to not hunt in areas that have very much uphill, you could literally call me a "flatlander"!!  8)

Best of luck on the hunt.  Have your son do the grunt work, that's what he's there for.  ;)

The only downside I can think of is, you'll see a trophy elk and won't be able to shoot it. ;)

I'm afraid he'll be goin home with me if he's alone, we can take cows and 3-pt or better bulls as well.  If he's got cows with him, the biggest cow will be going home, I'd take a fat cow over an old bull.....I think, that may be a tough decision.  ;)
