The First Mauser Bolt Action

This is a picture of my 71 Mauser. This is Mauser's first bolt action rifle model. Mine is still a single shot in the original chambering of 43 Mauser.  It was made in Bavaria in 1877. I do reload for it and shoot it with black powder and smokeless. There is no ejector for the cartridge case, just roll the gun to the right and the case falls out when the bolt is open.
The rear sight has about five different ways to use it.

neat rifle and looks very good!!!   I've owned a circa 1879, Argentine Remington Rolling Block in 43 Spanish since the late 1960s.  Back then, no ammo for my rifle was available, but did discover the 43 Mauser cartridge could be fired in my rolling block.    Once fireformed, brass was trimmed to use for reloading.  Used to buy Dominion smokeless 43 mauser ammo made in Canada for the 1871 rifle.  Still actually use some of this brass from back then.  Obviously, my rifle spent many many years in the closet unfired till about 6 years ago.  Never did shoot my 43 Spanish using black powder.  Presently prefer to use IMR Trail Boss in my reloads.  It fills a case nicely and is not case sensitive.   Its a hoot to shoot.
