Marlin 39a
« on: June 18, 2011, 05:52:14 AM »
I just picked up my 1950s marlin 39a from my gunsmith. The stocks on this vintage marlin 39a are rather clubby. I had him slim up the forend and butstock as well and refinish the wood. Turned out really nice. I'm happy with the feel of the gun now.  ;) think I might have my other 39a done too. It's the same vintage but is scoped.

I hear you about the "club" factor, especially on the forearm. I've chosen to leave mine alone. How about some pics of your finished project?
With these rifles as popular as they are, you'd think that others would have complained over the years.
I guess they're all busy shooting their beautiful rifles, while I'm looking at my computer screen...  :-[

My 1951 39a spends most of it's time in the safe, only sees the light of day on special occasions. Someday, when my time is my own, the special days will be closer together.

I'll try to get some pictures..Taking them is no problem but I've never been able to post them.  :o  Living in a bush village does have it's problems....like our dsl is slower than down south dial-up.

I complained about it more than once, includeing  here on GBO.  In the end, i voted with my dollars and bought a Henry.  It's been a GREAT move on my part.

I took my dollars, and voted first for a 39A. Then I voted again, for a Winchester 9422 on clearance. My wife voted for a Henry Golden Boy for me one Christmas. I last voted for a Marlin Mountie. Mabe this fall, I'll vote for a Browning BL-22. They're all nice rifles.

A Henry isn't even close to the 39A.

I agree. The Henry as compared to the 39-A is a joke. There is no comparison in fit, feel,or function.

Well, I've never owned a Henry, But I do have 3 marlin 39s. 2 39a, and a centery model with the light octogon barrel. They all shoot good. I also have a 50s remington pump 22 & a old JC Higgens my dad gave me when I turned 14. Guess I have enough 22s... ;)
