Charter 44, Oh boy!
« on: January 01, 2004, 05:49:40 AM »
I can hardley wait, it comes home tomorrow.  I found an old 3" Charter .44 bulldog recently and it quickly became my favorite carry gun.  Someone had filed the front sight down a little too much as it shot about 6" high at 15 yds.  Worked up a load with 200 gr XTPs and got it close.  Talked to my friend, Ken Kelly at Mag-na-port about how much I liked this little gun, except for the front sight.  He said send it down.  He called this morning and I will have it back tomorrow.  He milled off the sight blade, cut a grove and installed a S&W big dot front sight blade.  (Of course he Mag-na-ported it and refinished it satin blue)  Charter's never got the respect that was due them.  I've had several and enjoyed every one.   44 Man

I had a Bulldog back in the late 70's or early 80's that I loved. It bit hard with factory ammo and I was not reloading for it at the time. Sure wish I still had it. Last time I got longing for one I bought a snub Tauras in .44 spl. Still got that one. I also agree that Charter Arms was a very good value and never got the respect it deserved.

I allways like them too. Sounds like a neat little project. If you ever get up to the up in the summer get ahold of me and we can do a little shooting.

Lloyd, be happy to visit, and bring shooting irons!  We usually get up that way a couple of times a summer.  I just love Munising, usually stay at the Sunset.  Didn't make it last year, my free time off was used up on a trip to the southwest by motorcycle.  If you have an interest in bikes, you can read about it at www.roadsandriders.com.  Anyway, we are due for a trip up this summer, it would be great to meet you.   44 Man
