Powderman, you know we are the "salt for the earth" to keep it palatable to God.  American Christians for some reason or reasons have not done a good job the last 50-60 years. 
We allowed prayer and Bible reading to be taken out. 
We allowed the womens lib movement to pervert things beyond what was needed.  Christian men should have "loved their wives", and the Christian wives should have "respected their husbands" it the proper roles and the women's lib movement would have never been needed. 
We allowed the hippies to spread their influence because we didn't teach the younger people the why's, just the rules.  For instance when a girl got pregnant back in the 50's, she was shunned and shamed.  She had to live with the stigma.  What should have been done, was to teach her, that what she did was wrong, but still loved her and shamed the guy, just as well, and taught them the responsibliity required to raise children, the costs, etc. 
We should have protested Hollywood early on, when the standards were laxed. 
Businesses and industry lost their Christian influence.  Stores which opened on Sunday should have been boycotted by Christians.  Industry wanting to expand, hired more women instead of inovating with more robotics or efficiency. 
Banks allowed more credit, credit cards, lower down payments on mortgages, forcing more and more women into the work force just to keep up with the Jones'.

Our country is going to hell in a handbasket.  Liberalism, socialism, godless influences, twisted teaching about our heritage, I've had enough.  Most like me have had enough.  We have more lawsuits than any industrialised nation.  We have too much of a nanny state.  We spend too much.  Only people who need welfare should be the disabled, elderly, and mentaly retarded.  I say no more welfare except for the three mentioned.  No more food stamps.  No more foreign aid, Get rid of stupid environmental requlations and other regulations styfling business and growth.  Only regulate where it is needed and then use common sense.  I have a new Marlin rifle and stamped on the barrel is a warning that missuse of this product may cause death.  Kind of stupid, it is a gun.  Where did common sense go?  Government changing laws, and regulations, have caused most of our problems.  Nafta, and opening China to most favored nation trade status by Bill Clinton, yes it happened under his watch, caused our industry to move overseas.  Anyways, practicing the gay lifestyle is SIN in the Bible.  We are to have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness.  We are not to have fellowship with drunkards, theves, adulterers either.  They are to be shunned or put out of the church until they repent and turn back to God and the truth.  In America they just go to another church that is liberal or such.  Didn't always happen that way.  In the New Testiment we are told never to kill anyone, but to put them out, shun them, have no fellowship with them.

Well, I am against slavery, however, if you read real history, 90% of slaves were not mistreated.  If they were, they would have risen up to fight against their "masters" when union troops came through.  Most worked as sharecroppers after the war on their old masters plantations.  Yes Salem had witch trials.  Again 1600's America was closer to the middle ages than 1776 America.  Plymouth colony was formed in 1620, over 150 years before the revolution.  Also Catholics have their own problems, and continue to do so, because they don't allow their priests to marry, like all other Christian peoples.  I'm talking about Protestant America.  I know today less than 10% attend chruch in America whereas in 1960 50% attended.  Most were Prostestant.  Crime was low, divorce was low.  There was no need for Federal Welfare programs.  We made everything we needed.  35% worked in manufacturing.  Most women were homemakers, not workers.  Economy was brisk through the 50's and 60's.  Lots of bad things happened in the 60's to turn us away from God.  Common sense prevailed back then.

Ok, junior, so it's a pile of bull excrement, huh?  So, Christian men should NOT have "loved their wives"?  So, Christian wives should NOT have "respected their husbands"?  So, pregnant girls should NOT have been loved?  So, people should not have protested Hollywood's lack of morals?  Christians should NOT have protested stores that opened on Sundays?  Hmmm, funny that a liberal would find protests offensive and Taliban-like.

Powderman, yes it is sad to think about. Out of the percentage that does go to church how many of them choose a church where they hear what they want to hear. Or choose a church that entertains them.

DDZ. I believe that a large % go to churches that espouse their beliefs. The big churches, most anyway, get big by telling folks what they want to hear, not what God wants them to hear. That keeps the tithes and offerings coming in. Preachers of all denominations need to stand tall in the pulpit and preach the truth, not just  about Heaven, they need to know there is a hell too. They need to tell the people that killing babies is not pro choice, but murder. They need to tell folks that homosexuality is not just another lifestyle but a deadly sin and an abomination in Gods eyes. They need to preach the truth about that cancer islam. Unfortunately few preachers will do this, all these are preached in my church. Preach the truth and they fear losing members, so be it. Thats where real faith comes into play. POWDERMAN.
