Double rifle dilemma
« on: June 20, 2011, 07:25:39 AM »
I own 3 drillings, but for some unknown reason I have always wanted a double rifle. To me it seems like the drilling is the perfect hunting gun.
You guys that own one or both. What's your opinion. Do I need a double rifle or should I just stick with my drillings ?

Byron,
you need to sell me the Krieghoff drilling...  :o

I am thinking why do I need a Valmet 412 .30-06 DR?  I will always keep the 9.3x74r DR.  The benefit of the .30-06 DR is the speed of a second shot vs the HK SLB 2000 (semi automatic 30-06).

My recommendation for where you live is to look at a 9.3x74r DR.

Dougk,

How is the recoil on that 9.3x74R?

I dont have any problem with it.  In the 12/9.3x74r i shoot 3 inch Brenneke Black Magic, which make the 9.3x74r seam mild.

Compared to the .30-06 DR the 9.3x74r has more kick but not  so much that it is painful.

dougk,

I plan to take pictures of my drillings and get you to post them. We just have not had good light for taking photos since I've been back home. Overcast & foggy.

Byron,
let me know when you have the pictures.  There is a new way to unload pictures which is alot easier.

For your dilema, another option is a 12x12/9.3x74r  I am looking for one in that configuration....  Or a 9.3x74r x 9.3x74r / 12 ga.....

You'd rather need a double rifle drilling - two rifle barrels and one shotgun tube.

Byron,

There is absolutely no reason most of us "need" a double rifle. However, we only get to go around once in life so enjoy the trip. You should get a double rifle if it brings you pleasure. Life is for living and living is made up of all the small moments we spend on activities we enjoy. I don't know of anyone who ever had their tombstone engraved with the epitaph "I wish I had worked more".

I have 2 double rifles and two SXS double shotguns and enjoy shooting them all. I shoot the doubles more than my bolt guns because they are just plain ol fun to shoot.

In regards to recoil, the 9.3X74R does have recoil. However, most doubles have stocks made to accomodate recoil and it is not as punishing as some think. Additionally, playing around and loading up some reduced recoil loads is a major source of enjoyment.

Get yourself a DR.
