225y+, 270 on surviver stocks and an old 3X9 Bushnell scope. At my friends place in NW Pa. Snow, cold 12+" on the ground, crusty. Still hunting, must have walked 5 miles around the place. I thought I was following the property line, Ha. slowly walking along and came across a fresh bed with tracks leading down hill. I stopped and looked and saw something move, way down the hill. 2:30 PM last Sat of season. This place is heavily wooded. Laid down prone and glassed, nothing. Looked up and something moved again, Glassed, nothing. Took 15 min to find that deer in the scope. It was standing and feeding between two trees, all I could scope was the shoulder to the hind quarters. Laid the cross hairs just behind the shoulder and fired. Looked up and all I could see was legs up in the air. Saw it leap once and it was gone. I counted the strides down to were I thought it was standing and stopped at 225. Retried three times to find the spot. I saw a blood spray on the third time but no deer. I looked around and there she was, one leap, laying across a log, ten feet from the spray. Beautiful doe. Biggest deer I ever saw. Weighed out at 175lbs dressed. And thats not the end of the story. I use radios with the other people in the party. I called for my buddy and son to help. Where are you? They were in the camp watching movies, it's too cold out they said, Where are you. I stated I thought I was up the hill from the camp, come help me. I fired my hand gun and they said they heard me and are coming. 30 min no help??, fired again and they said they heard me and are coming. 30 more min, no help? About this time here comes a four wheeler with a guy in an orange suit weaving through the woods. He comes down to me and says hi, watch you doing. I said I got this doe and am waiting for my boys to help me drag her. He says where you out of? I says Doug's place. He says do you no where you are? I says yes just up the hill from there. He laughs and said, I know Doug and you are about 2 miles into private leased property. Oh crap I am toast. He then said, why don't you tie that deer onto the back of my quad and I will ride you to Doug's gate. Sure I said. It took at least 20 min to get to the gate and there was my buddy Dan and boy standing there waiting. They were afraid to come onto the lease property. The gate was 50y from the camp. Doug stated that normally that old guy usually arrests and fines trespassers, But that day was my lucky day.
