I wasn't planning on reloading for my 8MM project gun but in looking at the speer reloading book I notice the 150gr spitzer reloaded would give at 200yds 2400fps velocity and 1900 ft.lbs of energy I feel that is a serious round.  I bought some 170gr Igman ammo but there is no spec's on it to be found??  What speed or power??  Do you have a hunting load you like for your 8MM?  I feel a tack driver load is more important than a full power max load.  Any thoughts??                            BigBill

I love benchresting and grouping a tight quarter sized group with my '06 @100yds. and would love it even better if my 8mm would do it too and when others(who swear they can't shoot) see it too an old military gun shoot their pants off.

Comeon Big Bill,
Doesn't S&B have some good 8mm hunting ammo?  Just break out the old reloading equipment again!  You know you can do it.......Give Mikey a shout and I'll bet he's got a couple favorite loads he'll share with you.  He's too busy with his 6.5x55mm "Swedeees" to load 8mm anyhow!!!!!!!

Go SavageT:  Yeah!  BigBill - Old Buddy, the S&B factory loads in 196 grn at stompers, no matter how ya'll look at it.  In addition, the Vhita-Vhoury-Oy loads for the 8mm take that 170 grainer way out there and the 150s can be loaded to beyond 3K'/sec.  

I have always advocated the use of European loading data for a European cartridge.  American ammo makers never did any of the Euro calibers any justice, as they were more intent on psuhing out the American calibers and the reloading manuals were even worse, being constantly fraught with unnecessary liability concerns.  The Euros wonder what all the concern is about.  I would recommend the VV loading data - it'sa some good stuff.   Mikey.

Mikey your right they (8mm) can be pumped up really good I can remember you and Sumner telling me that now and heck i have a good safe gun with an excellent barrel its time to put it to the test soon.   At 3k thats magnum loads  your putting the 8mm in 300win.mag. and 7mm mag territory that sounds good.                            BigBill

Accurate has some good 8mm loading data. I don't have it here with me, but the load I've been playing with is a 220 grain Hornady and AA2700 for just over 2400fps, chronographed. That bullet has been discontinued by Hornady, but my dealer still has some. The data is in Accurate #2 and also in the free manual dealers give out. Got good data for the lighter bullets too, with AA2520.

Thanks I will look into going both heavy(bear) and light(deer) rounds for the 8mm.                                                             BigBill

I am using the 170g Hornady RN with IMR4064 [49.4-Max load]. It is accurate and travels 2630 fps. I have used 48g of Varger and the same bullet and got less than 1" groups at 2450 fps. I also have a box of Hornady 195g bullets to work with with, this summer.

Pet 8mm Mau. Loads

I use "A LOT" of IMR 3031 powder during the year reloading,
I am real fond of it.
My pet loads for 8mm Mau. are as follows,

Hornady 125 Gr. psp -- 50 Gr. IMR 3031 --3050 Fps.

Hornady 170 Gr. RN -- 47 Gr. IMR 3031 -- 2650 Fps. (Nice Load)

I am not one of those folks who try to "Magnumize" every thing I
load, I simply work up good accurate loads for my particular guns
and leave it at that.
