Stevens Ideal in 32-40
« on: June 26, 2011, 02:23:55 AM »
I bought this rifle at an auction last week. It has a tang sight and adjustable front globe sight. I would like to work up an accurate handload. I started with a cast 170gn bullet and 4477. No luck yet. Any advise on loads, bullets or loading technique would be appreciated. Shotgunner

Have you thought about BP or possibly 777. I believe a 32-40 was a champion BP cartridge in the last half of the 19th century (before - 30-30 and shortened 32 WCF).
