Costs for new shooter
« on: January 01, 2004, 01:02:23 PM »
The Mrs. is interested (sort of) so we ordered a brace of Ruger 32's--delievered is $800 + the $40 for the FFL.
Dillon conversion for my SDB is $65--85 depending on if I need the very small powder bar.
Brass, ammo boxes, mold, sizing die and top punch is another $80.

All this is cheap if she takes up CAS.

Hoping and hoping,

CR,

What you list is just the cheap tip of the iceberg - you haven't seen anything until you start shopping for "outfits" (cold weather and hot weather, working and dress-up, hats, boots, pants/skirts, leather), hearing and eye protection, and possibly a larger gun cart.  But, as you say, "All this is cheap if she takes up CAS".  Got to tell you it is great to have your wife develop an interest in something you like (expecially CAS) so you can enjoy it together.

As pointed out..
The guns cost a bit to get started, but they only cost once, and if you sell them to try something else, you an recoup most of the investment.

I've spent thousands on guns, but I figure I've spent into the thousands as well on clothes, for me and my boy.  If my sweetheart ever gives in.. I am gonna have to take another job.  She likes the clothes!  But, I'd pay double!

Adios,
But what is liberty without wisdom, and without virtue? It is the greatest of all possible evils; for it is folly, vice, and madness, without tuition or restraint.  - Edmund Burke

Yep, I figure that I have around 25k invested in this game, figurin in all the guns, leather, clothes, cart, reloadin equipment for the two of us. But it's worth every penny. Your pistol & dies investment is just the tip of the iceberg Ranger!  :-D

Slim, I forgot the travel trailer that we bought back in '98 primarily to travel to shoots. That's part of it. But I know a lot of pards that have less than 2.5k invested in their guns, leather, clothes & cart.

I've been thinking about a horse, also. But, I would have to build a barn, put up fencing, buy tack, buy a new truck, buy a horse trailer, buy some more land, etc. Maybe, $150,000 might do it.

Hell no!  I'm a good shrink, and shoot to boot.  Roload, cast, shoot the Holy Black, etc.  Just not head and shoulders into the Cowboy stuff yet, LOML not really interested.

Been licensed 19 years, but don't do long distance work!  I'm almost on the other side of the country from you guys, and jealous.  I'd love to have enough land and money to raise bison and have a couple of horses!  LOML talks about golf!  Golf - hum, let's see, you hit the ball and I'll shoot it out of the air!

PS - around the turn of the century psychologists were known as "alienists" - we work with those alienated from society.

I stand (actually sit) corrected.
