They got tired of being exploited by the post office eagle logos. By the way are they still considered endangered? I see lots of them all over.

Very few in my area but South of here they have them. The ones I've seen are  beautiful. Last I saw was in town in Corydon Indiana sitting on a rock in the river. We parked and watched it a bit. We were only about 50 yds away, with the binocs it was very impressive. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

Same pair I wrote about on June 18,.  They have really became a problem.

As for being endangered, they have never been endangered in Alaska.  We have them everywhere.  Eagles are the number two preditor on baby Dall Sheep and Mtn Goats.  I can take you out and find probably 8 Eagles in a 5 mile radius of my house, maybe more.  Ther numbers are no longer endangered, but the environmental wackos will have a fit if someone mentions lifting their protected status.  DSo their numbers keep growing and growing.

I can see how that would be pretty scarry, being attacked by an eagle.  I've seen roosters that could back some grown men down (I know better than to let a chicken push me around, but people who don't deal with them day to day can be intimidated by a big agressive bird). A pair of big raptors in full protective mode is a force to be reconned with, no doubt.

Last winter I saw one here in CT.  He was sitting on a frozen pond eating an unfortunate duck.  Drew a small croud of people (myself included) because it's not often you see a bald eagle around here.

There's certainly no shortage of bald eagles in this area (western Washington state); I see several every day.  From time to time I have seen flocks of them circling together like turkey vultures.  They are my favorite bird to watch when I'm out kayaking.

What does an eagle nest look like? About 5 miles from my house there is a nest on top of a power pole that is bigger than my car. This area is the nesting place for Blue Hurons but they sure don't make a nest like that

This time of year I can often see 30-40 eagles soaring over the bay in front of my house........ ;) endangered I think not. But they are our national bird and for that reason probably should remain protected.

I usually pick up a plastic grocery bag of feathers in my front yard every year. The feathers are used in native crafts.

I get a kick out of the Tourist every year.  Some one will take their little dog for a walk in either Valdez, Seward, Homer, or Haines.  Eagle will swoop down and doggie becomes food for the baby Eagles.  If the dog is on a leash it becomes a tug or war for the dog.  Sometimes the people win, sometimes the Eagle wins.  Dogs that survive, you are not getting them back outside.

Met one couple down in Homer once.  The woman was appalled that we let those birds pray on small dogs.  We should do something about it.  If she had not had a good hold on the leash her little dog would have been carried away.  The little dog was injured as it was.  And still in shock over getting grabbed by the big bird.  After she walked away her husband had a lot more to say.  He wished the Eagle had won.  Darned Dog is so paranoid it won't go outside any more.  Potty training right out the window.  Dog won't go outside, they have to pick it up to get it out of the motorhome.  If they put it down it gets between their feet and won't come out, or it runs under something like a car or motorhome and won't come out.

I saw one at the TX state aquarium a few weeks ago. Their talons were so big and developed I think they could kill whatever they wanted if placed right.

A few days ago the Field and Stream e letter I get sometimes had a picture - don't remember where - an eagle had grabbed a fawn deer, decided it was too heavy and dropped it in some power lines, knocked out some people's power.  The guy in the bucket truck said it was the first one he had ever seen.

When they are having a hard time killing their pray, they will drop it from a height that will kill it.  Then retrieve the now dead animal and take it to the nest.
