QLA Question
« on: January 01, 2004, 01:34:48 PM »
Hi guys,Does having the QLA on my Encore 209-50 mean that the barrel isn't crowned? When I look closely at the end of the barrel it looks as though it was machined unevenly. Would I be better off without the QLA?Thanks,MDH

The QLA and other false muzzles are supposed to protect the "crown," as well as allow for easy bullet starting. The White 97 / White 98 is a far better design, IMO.

If your gun shoots well, not much else matters. How does it group?

i bought a used encore from an aircraft machinist. he couldn't get the rifle to shoot at all. he took the barrel to work, measured it, and found the QLA wasn't machined evenly. if your having grouping trouble, cut it off and re-crown. or you could send it back to t/c. I called t/c, and they said if I altered the barrel in any way, they wouldn't honor the warranty.
you wanna take my guns? go ahead, it's your arm!

It just makes sense to shoot it first, then-- have T/C take care of any obvious problems. That, they do.
