Anyone know what could have happened?
« on: June 27, 2011, 08:08:37 AM »
My wife and I went for a long walk this morning. We passed a house that has been vacant for several months. There are now signs posted on the property that read- NO TRESPASSING. PROPERTY OF UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT. Any Ideas. I'm thinking either tax or drug related. Any other opinions?

Previous owners possibly behind on their federal taxes.  IRS placed a lien on the property, now it's waiting to sell.

I retired from USDA - Rural Development and we made housing loans to low income home buyers in rural areas.  Occasionally a house was repossessed by foreclosure, bankruptcy or the buyer just deeded it back thru a voluntary conveyance.   The signs were posted on the house but ours had a contact phone number.   It could be some other agency such as Federal Housing Authority which also accquires mortgaged property in the same manner.

Could be any of the above mentioned or maybe even asbestos? I have seen several houses in our local "hood" that have been deemed unsafe and seized.

Also could have been a defaulted loan, that had been backed by the VA.

We passed it again and the sign was from the USDA.
