Tough News
« on: June 27, 2011, 02:17:53 PM »
After a TEE Test today I just found out I'm going to have to have heart surgery again. This time to repair the Mitral Valve. It's not only leaking but way worse so than the doctors suspected. No idea how soon or what type of operation yet, as I haven't had the sit down talk with the Cardiologist yet. I'm not looking forward to being opened up again and not sure I'm up to it but when faced with it I'll do whatever I gotta do. Anyways, I may be gone for a while. Hopefully I'll be back. ....SH ^i^

goodluck hawk,  mine is no where as serious but i am going under the knife tomorrow morning to have the radial head in my left elbow replaced and a bunch of soft tissue reattached.  not looking forward to it one bit but it could always be worse, and these things have to be done.  I hope the best for you.

At 81 years young, Mom had that same surgery and a cow's heart valve "installed" (her own was beyond repair).  We call her "Moo-ther" now (hehe).  Recovery isn't entirely unpleasant, and not taking lightly the opening of the chest cavity, which is already tough enough.  She bounced back pretty quickly.  I hope that you do too.  She is 83 going on 84 and considerably better now with renewed energy.

Thanks everyone. I was exsposed to a lot of toxic chemicals in the Air Force and they've done a real number on me. I had to have a triple bypass in 05 and stents in 09 and what worries me is that during the bypass both my lungs collapsed so another open heart surgery is a bit scary to say the least. I'll do what I gotta do but it's gonna be a mighty rough road. Thanks again for thoughts and prayers. They don't seem to be in a big hurry so that's good, I guess. I see the doc on the 15th to find out when they will do it and how.

My sister in law had the same operation, if she can do it, I know you can. Wishing you a speedy recovery.  My prayers are with you, hang tough.

Thanks guys. I'll feel better when I talk to the doctor and find out just what kind of operation I'm facing. It's the not knowing that really wears on the nerves. Right now I figure if I brace for the worse, anything else will be a breeze right?  Might be wishfull thinking but better to enjoy the next few days than waste them worrying. :) Again, thanks for the prayers, kind words and thoughts. They, and you all, are much apreciated.

Spirithawk:

I'm sad because you may need surgery, but I'm glad there are good surgeons, methods, and treatments to help you. I wish you the best for a quick recovery and many fine years ahead.

It's easy for me to be optimistic because I'm not the one facing surgery now. It would scare the hell out of me if I did need it. But I take a lot of comfort and reassurance in recalling the genuine miracles medicine has been able to perform for several friends. They are still in my life and I'm as grateful as can be for that.

I got a call from the hospital today. Actually from the heart surgeon's nurse. I go the 19th to discuss the operation with the surgeon. I found out from the nurse that they do have to replace the Mitral Valve. No choice in the matter. That means opening my chest again and 6 months recovery. Gotta do what ya gotta do. Thanks for the kind words and prayers.....SH ^i^

That's seriously a scary situation, Lee.  I've been on the table a couple of times, but nothing like that.   My prayers for you brother that God be with you.  I was so relieved the last time I went in.  A male nurse passing by was a friend of the family, and came to my side and said a prayer over me when   I   c o u l d n ' t   even   pray for   myself.    Prayer is our key to God for he is our hope.   God Bless you Lee.

I saw the heart doctor today. She said I could maybe go without the operation but my pain would just continue to get worse and my heart grow weaker. I see no sense in that. Better to have the operation while my heart is stronger. Good news is that the pig valves now last longer than 8 years I had read about. Bad news is, being as how I've had heart surgery before, she said it makes this time more risky due to scar tissue. I at least found out who will do the operation and I talk to him Tuesday. They said he'd probably want to do it very soon after. I just want to get it done and over with. Thanks everyone for the kind thoughts and prayers. Need all the help I can get.
