Are premiun bullets like federal and hornady better than cheap bullets?

Remington Core-lokts are good bullets. IMHO you don't need premium bullets for deer unless you are using a magnum and then IF you need them it would be for controlled expansion like a Partition gives.

For plinking, bulk bullets are fine. For target shooting, especially long range stuff, premium bullets are the thing. For hunting, you want a bullet that has good terminal performance. That means it expands in a controlled manner. Hunting bullets usually aren't quite as precision as target bullets but they are capable of fine accuracy. I like Speer or Hornady hunting bullets the best.

Hello Billy,

If you just hunting deer any non-target bullet is fine. Deer are not very large animals an you do not need the power of a magnum cartridge nor the penetration power of a premium bullet, the everyday garden verity is fine. Now, if you were going after larger game, hunting with a magnum cartridge or large game that was very far away but might have a fairly close shot you want to go with a premium bullet like Noslers Partition bullet. Never consider a target bullet for hunting! Target bullets are not made to withstand the forces that are encountered in the impact on an animal; your animal more than likely will be wounded and run off to die later lost.
