OK, I started mine today. Planning to be done on July 4th.

To say it will NOT be historically accurate is an understatement. Mine will be a reduced scale (.25 caliber, one-third to one-half scale) hybrid. Sort of what you might get if you cross-bred a gatling gun with a hand gonne (hence the name). Minimum 8 barrels, but I hope to have 10-12 (I have stock for 16). It will be capable of "semi-auto" and "full-auto" fire of a sort (although "full-auto" will be a VERY serious committment by the shooter).

Barrels are 3/4" OD, 3xx stainless steel, bored to .25 cal, meeting the 3-caliber OD guideline. The base of each barrel is drilled and tapped for attachment to base.

I have a question though. Doesn't T308 stainless work harden badly due to the magnesium content?

It will be done tomorrow. Ran short of stainless machine screws. All the parts are completed now and ready for assembly. I got all the parts from a local surplus shop (Sky Craft) specializing in wiring and decommissioned military and industrial parts. I have no idea what these used to be a part of, but Sky Craft disassembles everything and sells the parts. It is the type of place where you walk thru and visualize what all you could build out of all the stuff with a little imagination.

- The 10 barrels are 300 series stainless steel 3/4" OD. They were already cut to length, machined and drilled exactly 1" and tapped 10-24. All I had to do was drill the bores and touch holes, and polish them.
- The round plate assembly was part of something very finely made. It was olive green powder coated originally. Seems to be 400 series stainless. It is 1/8" thick and had a machined 1x1 bar welded on perfectly centered and square. All I had to do was make a template in CAD for 10 barrel mounting holes, drill them, cut the diameter down, drill a 3/4" hole axially down the 1x1 square bar for insertion of the shaft, and clean and polish it up.
- The shaft is a piece of 3/4" 6061-T6 aluminum, 48" long.
- Barrel mounting screws are stainless.

The barrels are 3.5" long. They are bored about 2.125" deep. The mounting ends are drilled and tapped exactly 1" deep, so that really limited the bore depth. Had to work with how they came. But it is still about like a .25 ACP pistol barrel.

I'd love to see someone do one in .50 cal.

Is that going to be fired be lighting the fuses individually or are you going to splice the fuses to a single long fuse
and just light the one fuse and hold on?

Black Cats. Which don't leave much space for powder. But occasionally one goes off about 30 feet out of the barrel.

In playin around with firecracker launchers I have found that 9 grains of 3F or 8 grains of 2F gives the most consistant ignition of the grey fused blackcats. If you are using green fuse blackcat brand crackers 10 grains of 2F is best.

it really is easy. go to youtube, click sign up, and follow the directions. Then when you're ready sign in, click upload, and relax. If I can figure it out anybody can.

I have to retry the chain fusing. Tying together the fuses with cotton string did not work well.

On the 8th and 10th the Black Cat went off. The rest blew up in the barrels.

In the past when I've done firework displays for family and friends I used electrical tape for the splices. A minimum of one inch of fuse taped together with the end of the short fuse pointed towards the burning end of the long fuse.

Try some more violent, faster burning fuze that is easier to light.

Success! Electrical tape did the trick. 10 shots from one lighting. Is that "full-auto"?

Only takes 15 minutes to load

Not exactly a battlefield impliment.
