My Ruger Single Six and it's new holster
« on: July 01, 2011, 06:18:39 AM »
I posted this over on the leather working forum but since I now had a pic of my SS I thought I'd post it.  The fact that I'm real proud of the holster has nothing to do with it!   ::) ;D

Looks great.  Is that your first holster?  Did you purchase a pattern or make your own?  How much time did it take you to make it?  What did you use to die the leather?

Thanks!   ;D

Yup, my first holster.  I was drawing up a pattern like I do for knife sheaths when I found a great tutorial on leatherworker.net.  It also has a couple of very professional patterns.  So I ended up using my holster pattern and one of their their belt loop patterns for this holster.  I'll just use all their stuff next time.

I used Fiebings (sp) "British Tan" spirit dye because it is the closest I could find to the shade of Russet I like.  I applied it with an airbrush as I have found, on my knife sheaths, that the dye streaks if you apply it with a dauber.

I really have no idea how long it took me.   :-\  I'd come home from work and play with it for a while then put it up.  I guess I've been working on it 2 or 3 weeks now.  Having learned a lot with this one I would imagine you could finish one in a day or two... and that's taking your time!   ;D

Very Cool.  Thanks for the info.  Maybe someday I will try my hand at a simple California Slim Jim for my 6.5" Ruger SS.  Maybe a cross draw version.
