Here in our state the heirs own the graves of ancestors.  Must not be the case there.  I wonder who is going to pay for this train wreck?  Surely  they would not ask the poor muslims to do it?  It would have to be a public work paid for out of the overflowing public coffers of our English kin...... :(

some graveyards in Europe get re-used after a couple generations. The is done to make room for more dead people, Muslim or otherwise.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

Just out of curosity if they reuse graveyards what do they do with the former tennents?

remove the bones and replace. Or deepen graves and stack bodies.

remove them to... somewhere else. The reason that words escaped you on this, is that you're uninformed. NOthing wrong with that; we've all got things we don't know.

here's a place for moved bodies:

just not enough space everywhere to plant everyone; graves are temporary, sometimes. Google it.

If I recall right Singapore buries their dead for a time then digs them up. Relatives can either claim the remains or they are disposed of.
A lot of mausoleums have an open pit under them they just shove a new body in and the old slides off in to the bone pile beneath.
Makes me no difference what they do with my old hull when I'm gone I wont be needing no more.
Although I've like the idea of some sort of marker with these words on it.

When my old soul's hunts range and rest
Beyond the last divide,
Plant me in some stretch of West
Sunny, lone and wide.
Let cattle rub my tombstone round
And coyotes mourn their kin,
Let horses come and pawl the mound
But don't you fence it in!
 ;)

  • I feel much better now knowing it will get worse.
In my native country, it was possible in my grandfathers period to extend the time by a payment that is normally allowed to a grave before it is renewed for the next person. I presume bones are ground up and spread out in the cemetary somewhere.

I don't care for Muslim-bashing just for the h*** of it, but I do agree that European countries and the 'West" in general do not deserve to be overrun by Muslims.
Muslims should be free to run their own countries as they see fit, but hands off ours!

So I reluctantly decided to post this...

...thinking it was relevant to this discussion.

There areadvantages of living in rural Canada. We have a cemetery here that is administrated by a church. The land was given to them with enough funds to pay for routine upkeep. Anybody may purchase a  burial plot large enough for two coffins for $ 150. There is a slight charge for opening and closing the ground.

I'll not posit an opinion in this case, but realistically - regardless of religion, race, etc, a dead person maintaining a PERMANENT piece of ground for all eternity is a bit much to ask for.

Consider this: there are currently 7 billion people alive right now.  In a certain amount of time - say, 125 years, every single one of us will be dead.  I know that not all faiths and customs require burial, but I'm going to assume that everyone would at least have the opportunity if they wanted.  Lets assume every one of us needed a 4ft x 10ft area to be buried in.  40 sqft, multiplied by 7 billion.  280 billion sqft.  10,043 square miles.  That's about the size of the state of Hawaii - just to store bodies - and that's just the NEW ones that would need to be stored in the next century or so.  We've been storing bodies for centuries past now so not only is that land already "taken up", but presumably this is a problem that will continue long past the hypothetical 125 span I referenced earlier.

How much land would we be giving the dead in 500 more years?  1000?  10,000?  Eventually it gets a bit ridiculous.  There has to be some limit to which we either stack the graves, have some sort of "expiration time" on a plot - ie, long after anyone that would have known them when they were alive are dead themselves, or encourage cremation in a major way (which I think is the most sensible solution in the long run anyways - just do away with the antiquated notion of burying the dead).

England would likely run into this sort of problem faster than us anyways (they're an island not much bigger than Florida - less open land to spread out), but realistically it's something that the world needs to come to terms with eventually.  People can't expect to live 80-90 years on this earth and then take claim a piece of real estate for eternity.

May I humbly suggest that Canada could serve as England's graveyard for many more generations?  They already own the land (they call it "Crown Land"), and I can tell you from personal experience, there's not much competition for it.  And apparently at a bargain $150 a plot!  Hell I may dig up some of my relatives and resell their plots...
