Remington Rimfire bolt
« on: July 02, 2011, 11:41:31 AM »
I have a Rem M592 5mm rimfire the extractor broke luckly I was able to fine a couple of spare extractors. My problem is I am not sure how to replace /disassemble the extractor. I suspect this is probly the same bolt as used on other remington rimfires. There is a pin just behind the extractor that I think needs to be knocked out?? Old extractor slides out new slides in?? Any of you guys done these before ? Does this sound right?? I tried tapping it out easy but it did not move do you think it comes out just one way? It does not appear to need to come out one way. Thanks Kurt

Those 592 extractors are totally different from the regular 580 style, but I think you're on the right track. Knock out the pin and the bolt comes apart. Then you should be able to replace the extractor.

Those pins are usually really tight. Make sure you have a good way to hold the bolt so you can get a good hit on it. I usually put it in the mill vise with a V block, the bench vise is too flexy.

I've worked on a couple of the 591-2 guns but have not taken down the bolt. The attached seems to indicate the extractor is retained by the bolt head bing inserted into the bolt body..
The pin you're looking at is number 4 in the attached drawing and is the bolt take down pin. The extractior on the 580 series are retained by a circular spring.

Yes thanks for the reply's guys. I took it to work and put it in the mill vise and it was stiff but with solid hold it came out and went back together very well works perfect again. Kurt
