Hog Hunting In Tennessee
« on: July 03, 2011, 04:19:13 PM »
Tennessee Wildlife Agence changed the rules on hog hunting for the 2011 season.
The only hog hunting allowed will be in the East Tennessee/Smokey Mountain area.  It is no longer legel to kill any hog other than on special hunts.  In previous years you were allowed to kill ferrel hogs during deer season that is no longer legal starting this year.

:) Howdy! Some of those Tennessee Wildlife officials should come down to Texas and see our feral hog populations. If they did, they would recommend immediately to go to "no closed season, no bag limit, no limit on means of taking!" In Texas you can't kill hogs fast enough to make much of any impact, but we are trying. They have helicopter hog hunts now.  Always, Gene

Gene:
It has been several years since I was in TX.
Since the Ranchers were asking a nice amount of $ to help them out I figured the problem wasn't big enough. ;)

Wild HOG HUNTING
Wild hogs are defined as any wild swine
found in Tennessee. They are considered
big game therefore a Big Game license is
required. Blaze orange must be worn at
all times while hunting wild hogs with a
firearm unless hunting on the person’s own
property. Wild hogs are not required to be
tagged or checked in at big game checking
stations. We encourage you to call in any
wild hog harvested to the Wildlife Division
at: (615) 781-6621 to help us monitor their
spread.
Wild hog gun season is open year-round
except as noted. Blaze orange required.
PRIVATE LAND
Public Hunting Areas are considered private
land.
• Season open year-round, 30-minutes
before sunrise to 30-minutes after sunset.
No limit, either sex. No dogs allowed
except as listed in the chart on this page.
Legal Equipment
Any centerfire rifle or handgun, shotguns
with slugs, muzzleloaders (.40 cal. or larger),
and archery equipment.
During Deer and Bear Seasons: A big game
hunter may take a wild hog with whatever
hunting device is legal during the deer and
bear seasons.
During Turkey Season: Wild hogs may be
hunted with any legal hunting device during
the spring turkey season; however, blaze
orange must be worn at all times. Turkey
hunters may take a wild hog with archery
equipment during the spring turkey season

:)  Howdy! Hog hunting is a lot of fun. You can look at it as another "big game" animal as they do in Tennessee. Hunters should be encouraged to take hogs. Where there is a water source and a food source (hogs will eat almost anything), there will be hogs eventually. They make some very good sausage and lean meat. However, here in my part of Texas, hogs have been hunted for so long that one can lose interest in hunting them. Right now there is an attempt to exterminate them by just shooting as many as possible. We are in a serious drought in Texas right now, so hogs will be near any water source that can be found. Good hunting!  Always, Gene

thats the old rules, the new rules apply starting aug 1st.landowners & up to 10 others may be named to kill hogs on a property.any weapon & nite hunting over bait will be approved with no problems.too many folks are making $ by transporting them to other parts of the state .they are not listed as big game any longer, they are listed as a invasive critter.they will still be allowed to be taken in the places that they were historicaly, dogs will be allowed .twra is serious about getting rid of them, they are following other states with hog problems that are making headway,i dont think tx is having much luck .

It will end up with you paying the landonwer to get on the list of 10. It will turn any farm with a pig track on it into an unoffical gamefarm. Go to Texas and see if any landonwer wants a free helper for his hog problem. I for one am done hunting hogs in TN. How are they going to handle the timber company deer leases?  I was on one just to hunt the hogs, I have better places to hunt deer. I won't be on that lease again.

Since TN is charging for a big game license it appears they are after revenue and not seriously worried about the spread of those porkers.

The reason Tennessee stopped allowing open hunting for hogs is that a lot of people were bringing in outside hogs and raising them then turning them loose in hopes of being guides for hog hunts.

The idea is that if no hog hunting is allowed it will slow down people promoting growth of hogs loose in the state.

pretty dumb decision on twra ,s part

but then again trwc runs the show with goodole boy influence from people with connections in east tn

every hog that gets a free ticket
just breeds more

banning the importation of hogs somehow is supposed to offset the reproduction rate of those currently running around
the things breed like 2-3 litters a year ranging from 8-12 per litter
the only way to get rid of them is keep a policy of the ban on importation in place and allow the year round shooting of those that exist still to start again

call me crazy
but this program of theirs
basically of you cant shoot a hog
aint gonna work

and yes im the same renegade50 from tn deer

got banned again
x3
aint going back
they play favorites on that website way too much for me
