Ak-47 muzzle break/flash hider removal?
« on: July 04, 2011, 05:41:33 PM »
I have a Yugo Ak-47 with a muzzle break/flash hider that is threaded on, it has a noticeable wobble.  I have read that the threads are opposite, turn right to loosen.  I would like to see about removal for cleaning, etc.  There is a spring loaded pin that holds it in place, I cannot get the pin to go all the way in to turn/thread the muzzle break.  How did the maker get this item together if the pin won't go all the way in to install and turn the muzzle break?  Apparently this wobble is normal for AKs.

The only option I see is to use a file or dremmel and grind down the length to allow the pin to properly recess, yet I have seen some videos that show people who have managed to replace their muzzle breaks with after market items.  Photo attached showing what I am up against, anyone have any ideas?

If you punch out the front pin on your sight, will it release the spring loaded pin? I'm just guessing,
but that's what I would try.

That sounds like a plan to me. Perhaps the plunger 's relief cut for the cross pin is too short to allow full motion. Could also be a spring that's too long or too heavy. Either of which can cause the plunger to have less travel than needed.  Good luch and let us know how it works out for you..

Thanks for the replies I can see one of the base pins could be knocked out and this may allow for the push knob to go all the way in.
