MEC charge bar (dumb) question
« on: July 05, 2011, 08:12:34 AM »
Folks,

I am new to trap shooting and reloading.

I have been following a formula given to me by the previous owner ( and confirmed by the Accurate book) of the mec reloader I am using.  I use Accurate Nitro 100, with CB 4100 (7/8 to 1 oz) wad, remington primers. I get a good consistent measure of powder, and I assumed I was shooting 1 oz.   I think I am using #26 or #27 bushing (but I forgot to check this morning).

Anyway, I have loaded and shot about 1000 rounds, with no misfires.  I have been pleased with the machine and shells.

Yesterday, I was looking at the charge bar.  I assumed the 1 oz. charge bar was in, but discovered I have been using the 1 1/8 charge bar.

My question is  how has this charge bar worked with my wads which are set for 7/8 to 1 oz. of shot?  I know this has been dumb, but has this been dangerous?  I get good crimps and no other probems.

The 4100 is for 7/8 to 1 1/8 ounce loads, optimum load 1 ounce. That's according to Claybuster. I don't have my Accurate load data right here, but there's a pretty good chance you're overpressure if you're using 7/8 or 1 ounce load data with 1 1/8 ounces of shot.

You need to buy a scale.
Remember it's where the first bullet goes out of a cold barrel that counts most.
