20% of kids graduating high school can't balance a checkbook or read and understand a newspaper, much less electives.  How about teaching the kids to read, write, math, and history, especially American history.  If they can get reading skills up to a higher level, as well as math skills, then the other stuff can be added as electives.  Those 20% should never have been able to graduate high school.  I know in Alabama, 20-30% of college freshman have to take remedial cources in english and math before they can move on to basic freshman level courses.  They got the high school graduation rate up, but still didn't teach them the basic skills to become functional adults.  In 1890, 85% of the American people were functionally literate.  They could read and understand a newspaper and books.  Today it is about 80%.  So much for liberal education.

It might be taught in a class called comparative religions. If it's an elective and students choose it, I see nothing wrong with teaching religions of the world and showing their similarities and differences. No difference than comparing Capitalism, Socialism, Fascism and Communism.

College is the place for a class called "Comparative Religions" and whatever you would call a class comparing political ideology. Not only would these classes be way over the head of your average middle and high school kid but they would also be wasting time that could be spent making sure that these kids have a grasp of the basics.
Hi NSA! Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?

Kids graduate from high school not knowing how a business operates, or anything about capitalism.  They are taught socialism, evolution, and nothing about the unique nature of America, its founding principles and why they work if the constitution is respected.

I think they should know:
1) A good grasp of American history, and the constitution, and that we have a republican form of government (not the republican party).
2) Citizenship principles, voting, our capitalist principles, how businesses are ran, like sole propriertorships, corporations.  How to save for retirement, a house, a car, etc.
3) How to save money, budgeting, and balancing a checkbook.
4) Good reading skills, at least how to read a newspaper, a short novel, and comprehension of what they read.
5) Good enough math skills to understand weights, measures, so they can budget buy their products.  Be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.  Like which is larger a gallon or two liters. Or a 5th of liquor or a quart.  That would get some of their attention.

They are taught that. Whether they are willing to learn it is another story.

Please remember, it's not only ok, it's promoted by the muslim religion, to lie to push their agenda. Hopefully, the parents of these students sat down and told them the truth. Women had more rights in the 7th century than what they had here 1200 years later. What a crock of bull. I lay the blame on school administrators. Somebody ought to be fired for this incident. gypsyman
