Well... sounds kind of like if they'd gone to a Catholic church, and some of the kids listened in to the sermon, and maybe even took the Lord's Supper. IF THEY'D DONE THAT... that might have been 'outside the rules' for school activities, I don't know (not my area of expertise).

Well, I think that Jewish boy will still be Jewish, and probably recover from this traumatic experience of... hanging out with Muslims.

I really question how a short exposure to something like that will over ride years of guidance from parents and religious education. If a short exposure is that effective, think how effective years of parental and religious education has on children. If the question is asked of you- would your child be swayed by that ?- many of you would answer a definitive NO, I have brought them up better than that. That is exactly the point. Fear not.

XD40. Mine swayed?? No. But there are many without any spiritual upbringing or guidance in the schools who will be swayed. That is who they are going after. Get them before they are old enought to know what a cancer islam really is. I doubt whether 1/3 of the kids in the city schools go to church at all. Young minds absorb a lot. I think education would be much better without teachers. Everyone should be homeschooled. Seriously, than the parents would only have themselves to praise or blame for how their kids turned out. Sixth graders at the Wellesley Middle School take a course on "Enduring Beliefs and the World Today." The course includes study of Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Hinduism. According to the school superintendent "each teaching unit is developed similarly for consistency of presentation with the following construct: Stories of Origin and Important People (Early History), Core Beliefs, Holy Writings, Symbols & Objects, Holy Places & Places of Worship, Rituals & Rites of Passage, and Celebrations & Holidays." Students visit a mosque and a synagogue, attend a Gospel concert, and meet with a Hindu group.

RE the mosque visit, sounds like they were teaching about it, rather than pushing it. Seems to me that's worth doing; otherwise the kids will get info from other sources - maybe even here, then they'll think Muslims are... godless, or satan's disciples, or some other foolishness... .

The responsibilty of the public schools is to teach reading writing and arithmetic and not Islam to its students. Sorry religion isnt one of the "three R's" A thorough knowledge of islam or any other religion isnt going to help a public school grad find a job.

I disagree. Having some understanding of history, religions, and culture is valuable.

Oh yeah you got me-I would have never been able to comprehend DNA/RNA base pairing sequences without a knowledge of islam. Any type of religious indoctrination does not make an "informed/educated" citizen.

I really question how you fail to see a problem with this. Number one it is hypocritical and yet another example of the double standards practiced by the left. Surely you must know that had this been a field trip to a christian church there would have been a been a media feeding frenzy over it and probably even ACLU action against it. Number two: At about 2 and a half minutes into the video I see school children participating in midday prayers-even a leftist cant miss it the narrator makes it perfectly clear. Whats the problem with this? Well these children were on public school time and I distinctly remember that:

There's place for learning about diff religions in education, or there ought to be. I can understand how some would want zero education on the subject, as that education might disagree with someone's dogma. That's unfortunate, and a little bit of a problem.

It might be taught in a class called comparative religions. If it's an elective and students choose it, I see nothing wrong with teaching religions of the world and showing their similarities and differences. No difference than comparing Capitalism, Socialism, Fascism and Communism.
