just sayin'
« on: July 08, 2011, 08:30:06 AM »
Had to drive the truck to work yesterday, high winds, thunderstorms, flooding, and predicting heavy fog for the ride home (at midnight)

Finally get to "put her in the wind" today  :)

Anyone else here use their bikes as daily drivers??

Anyone else ride late night??

i would if i had any amount of distance to travel to work, but my commute is about a 30 second walk.    but i suppose that i could just say yes in that if i have errands to run or if i am headed somewhere and the weather is appropriate, i take the bike.
late night riding is nice, but the problem is you outrun your headlight fairly quick.  i just happen to have rode mine home last night.   it was foggy but otherwise beautiful out.

back in late 60s and early 70s my truck would sit for weeks unused.  even in winter.

Since my commute is about 1 hour each way, the bike earns its keep, and does double duty as a toy on the weekends.  The down side is it's always dirty!

a mechanic at the bike shop told me I had the dirtiest bike he ever saw.  I told him I didn't buy it to sit in the driveway.

Amen to that BUGEYE, mine is an '09 model and I've put nearly 18K miles on it so far.

I haven't rode since 76 when I almost killed my self AND my wife. still carry the M on my license though.
I wore out the interstate between atlanta and titusville Fla.
sometimes I hint about getting a scooter but my wife and daughter go balistic.
enjoy your ride, I'm envious.

Since I live in a alaska village, with very limited roads I don't ride far. But when I lived in new mexico I did. Even in winter as long as there was no snow on the roads.  ;) In southeast alaska we avg almost 200" of rainfall a year. I must be getting soft in my old age because I seldom ride in the rain anymore.  :o

When I was employed, and lived up north, I rode to work almost everyday from late April through early October.
Second shift was the norm, so yes....I rode home late at night, the second half of a 96 mile round trip.
Friday nights during Summer brought droves of city-slicker party goers, to the lake-side beaches and nightclubs.
I had a few run-ins with intoxicated youths, who thought their car a great weapon to harass an innocent biker, late at night on a lonely highway. (sounds like "then came Bronson", eh?)
To make the story shorter, I ALWAYS wore my leather jacket, and underneath, I shoulder holstered my Colt Trooper Mark III 357 magnum, and wearing it paid off handily a couple times.
Nobody was ever injured, because I'd just pull over in a dark, desolate area of the roadway, get off the bike and crouching behind the bike, I'd draw the 6" barreled revolver, and ask who's on first? ;D ;)
It is.....what it is...
