I'm not much on naming firearms. I can only remember one I gave a name to of the several hundred I've owned. No I don't still have it but admit I wish I did. I had an 8-3/8" S&W686 I used to win a bunch of trophies and took it hunting a lot as well. I named it Silver. I honestly don't recall ever having named any others.
I reckon I've owned about every barrel length S&W has made in the M29 and M629 at one time or another with and without the under lugged barrels. For an iron sight gun I prefer them without the heavy underlug. With a scope they are so unhandy anyway it doesn't much matter.
I do prefer the long barrels tho and the M29 Silhouette with 10-5/8" was my all time favorite. I was a fool to let that one go. I almost bought a replacement for it from a member here but just couldn't see spending the money he wanted on it. At the time I had the attitude that such guns just shouldn't cost that much and since it wasn't MINE anyway I didn't buy it. I spent more on this one than he wanted for the M29 Silhouette. I wish now I'd have bought it but didn't. I really should see if the fellow who bought mine still has it and is willing to part with it.
