With drugs, also came prostitution and gambling. Ronald Reagan said it best, "government is not the solution, government is the problem". Another pet peive of mine, is the liberals blame "Wall Street" and "Big Corporations" for their "greed". Well, it was "Wall Street Banks, especially Goldman Sachs who created the housing bubble, but it wasn't Alcola, or Coka-Cola, or Dow Chemicals, and such corporations. They want to just sell their products. Now some very large corporations don't pay taxes (like GE), but their taxes will always be passed on to the end consumer. For instance, I work in natural gas. The driller is taxed on his profits, the transmission company is taxed on their profits, the local distribution company is taxed on their profits. It all adds up to quite a bit transferred to the end consumer. Same with gasoline. That is why I am in favor of doing away with income tax all together and have a national sales tax on everything produced and sold, except food and medical expenses. Everyone would pay their fair share. If a poor person buys their clothes at Wal-mart they pay less tax. A rich person may buy at Macy's or Sax 5th Ave and pay more tax. A poor person may buy a jon boat to fish out of, while someone with more money may by a Ranger bass boat. The rich would pay more tax. A lower middle class person may buy a home for $100,000 and pay $1,000 in tax during the sale. A rich person might buy a $1,000,000 home and pay $10,000 in sales tax. For national emergencies we could drop all income tax to 1% just to keep it going in case we need to up it. A 1% national sales tax could completely replace the income tax for both private and corporations. It might just stimulate the economy. Corporations would buy a lot of things from corporate cars, desks, chairs, raw materials, etc. They would then pay their share of tax without having to find loopholes. Same with individuals.
