model 67 savage/stevens slide lock

the gun will lock but the slide lock will not release unless it is pushed after fireing. something is out of adjustment but what??

Perhaps the spring is not hooked up correctly. Or perhaps the pivot stud is no tight or is badly worn. Also it is possible to bend the lock such that while it locks the action it will not be able to release. This is assuming the normal savage action. See the diagram at the link below. Also assuming your referrence to push to unlock is pushing the slide release button..

Let us know if you're going to tackle this yourself and perhaps we can help. The weapon will have to be taken down at least to the point of removing the fire control assembly(trigger assembly). The slide lock is a part of that mechanism.
