Another one on the way
« on: July 11, 2011, 01:00:41 PM »
I've been having problems with my head lately all mixed up and confused. I even bought a Ruuugggggeeeerrr the other day (Story posted this forum) and now I have yet another on the way. Sumpin must be wrong wid me.

Catalog Number: RNVB-445-SPL | Model Number: 5235 | Caliber: .44 Special

Material: Alloy Steel Finish: Blued

Sights: Adjustable Capacity: 6

Barrel Length: 5.50" Overall Length: 12.00"

Weight: 45.00 oz. Grips: Bisley-Style, Wood

Twist: 1:20" RH Grooves: 6

MA Approved & Certified: No CA Approved: N/A

Avalable From: Lipsey's

This is the one I went to pick up the other day as they expected it to be in the shipment they got that day. It wasn't in that shipment so I wound up bringing home a Ruger BH .45 Colt 5.5" and a S&W 629 8-3/8" instead.

It is supposed to be here on Thursday.

Three new handguns in a week....not bad..lol.  It sure feels like an addiction sometimes.  I just picked up a S&W M&P .45compact.  My tenth .45acp.  "Needed" it like a hole in the head, just liked it.. :)

Now that new Bisley .44 of yours sure looks interesting......

Just lettin' ya know, some folks, I won't say who consider it extreme to carry more than two guns at a time.  At least that's been my experience.   ;D

Ruger makes a nice single action revolver.

Them folks must be dumocraps. What the heck is wrong with toting more than two guns at once? I seldom go out with so few.

I bought the exact same gun yesterday, well it has the red laminated grips.
I got tired of waiting for S&W to return my 624, I hope it's going to be returned anyway, so I bought the Ruger.

I suspect the Ruger will be more fun with full power loads than the Smith. (Skeeter full power, not Elmer full power)

Yup that's what I'm getting is a .44 Special. I've already got my eye on a set of imitation ivory grips for it also.

There are a lot of .44 specials out there right now. Bisley, Blackhawk, Vaquero, Sheriff. All those Rugers should boost the .44 special's overall popularity a smidge and make brass and ammo a bit more common.

Gcrank, some good catfish at the Top of the River might be another excuse for the road trip. I could talk my wife into that, and then just mention I wanted to stop in a gun store and then just maybe see something I had to have. :)

So is the medium frame Blackhawk Flattop that Lipsey's has about the same size as my Single 10? I really like the Single 10 and the way it fits me. A regular Blackhawk just doesn't fit my hand at all.

That .45 with the imitation ivory grips they have sure looks like a nice gun, but I hate to pay for an extra cylinder that I don't want. Graybeard, do you know if they have one of these in stock?

Nope I don't know. I'll be going this afternoon to pick up my Bisley .44 Special and will try to remember to ask Richard. You could call ahead and see if he has one or to ask him to order one for you.

He is a Lipsey's authorized dealer or whatever they call it and gets regular shipments from them. He didn't have the Bisley in stock but Lipsey's did and it is supposed to arrive today.

Good luck with the 44 .
I have a Blackhawk with reg grips in 44 spl. Yesterday I was loading it and had one 44 mag round so just to see how much the chamber was shorter i loaded it . The rim almost touch the cyl. It was a win silvertip factory load. Wonder if a case trimmed on the min side would allow it to chamber ? Also the extra free bore and accuracy .
Anyway it shoots OK .
Hope you enjoy yours and if ya'll keep bringing up these fancy Bisley grips I might have to try them ......
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

I asked today while there and he doesn't have one in stock. He called Lipsey's while I was there to ask and they have put him on the list to get one or some when available which should be soon I gathered.

He said the blue one you linked to will run you $500 and the SS version I didn't even realize was available will be $620.

Mine wasn't there as they failed to ship it as he expected after he called when I was there. It will be here Monday rather than today. He still has a BH .45 Colt like the one I bought the other day in stock and several other Ruger guns as well.

Many thanks for checking on it, Graybeard. I have bought 2 handguns this year without seeing them first, but I want to handle one of these before buying it. I hope he will order one without me being obligated to buy it; I'd bet he would sell it fast even if I didn't buy it. I also hate paying for an extra cylinder that I don't want, but I guess that's the only way its sold.

That sure is a good looking gun, and I think its the size I want. When you get yours, would you mind comparing it to a Single 10 and see how similar it is in size and feel? I have long and skinny fingers, and a regular Blackhawk feels like a cannon to me. The SAA and the Single 10 both fit me much better.

Thanks again.

I don't have a Single Ten only a Single Six and the grip is not the same nor is it the same as either my BH45 or the Bisley .44 that is on the way. Now I believe the Single Six grip and the one on my BH .45 Colt are the same. Both are the black plastic they call hard rubber like the old Colt grips.

It is my understanding and is basically what their site says that the Single Six and BH grips and grip frames are interchangeable. The grips they sell on their site for the BH don't fit the newer models with the silly internal safety they say but it shows them fiting both BH and Single Six guns that don't have the safety which my BH has.

The Bisley grip on the .44 Special I have on order is much different than the Single Six, Single Ten or BH. The Bisley grip is the same on all Bisley's from rimfire to the SBH .44 mag or the BH .45s.

The gun you are looking at is a BH tho I think a new flat top so I'm not sure how the grips on it are compared to either of the others. I've not held one of the flat top guns they are now producing.

Nothing I've handled by Ruger feels like the Single Ten grip on the one I looked over at Richard's store.

Chances are he will order the gun as he will sell it quickly. In fact your problem is more that he will put it in the case and it will sell before you get there. That's why when I order one I want to be there very soon after it comes in. I've had dealers do that to me before. In fact one dealer who really was one of the best I've dealt with but is no longer in business did worse.

I had an EMF lever action and pair of .45 handguns shipped to me as writer samples and he sold the rifle and had both revolvers in the display case for sale by the time I got there. He had to buy me a new rifle and pay full dealer cost on it which was a fair bit more than my cost on the guns as a writer. I think most all gun manufacturers sell to writers at 10%-15% under dealer cost.

Thanks for all the info. I guess I would have to handle it to see how it feels in my hand. Since they aren't very common, maybe I won't have to spend that money. ;)

I think the Blackhawk on a medium frame is a great idea and Ruger ought to make it a regular item. The gun in my link weighs 40 oz and my Single 10 weighs 38. Of course, the bigger holes in the .45 take away a lot of weight, so I'm not sure how the guns compare as far as feel.
