New production SP101 .22LR?
« on: July 12, 2011, 07:35:06 AM »
I have been reading a lot of chatter about Ruger bringing back the SP101 in 22LR. Anyone else hear anything? I have been wanting a double action .22 revolver and the S&W's are out of my price range and I have read to much negative press on the Taurus so I have been looking for an old H&R double action .22 but after hearing this I may have to wait. I would love to have a SP101 in .22 to go with my .357 SP101.
Hi NSA! Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?

Yep. It's said to have a fiber optic front sight. To be released this Fall, I understand.

SS construction, 30 ounces weight.  G&A has a write up in the new issue.  They like it.

If they price it right, it should sell very well.  I would jump on one if I had money.

SP101 frame, 8-shot, 4.3" half underlug barrel with fully adjustable sights is what I read someplace.   No mention what the sights are.

Not interested if that's what it is.    I'd consider it though if it was a 6-shot and didn't have fiber sights.

Well I saw somewhere that MSRP was going to be $650. I think I'll pass and keep looking for a better bargain.

The new Ruger DA .22 is at the top of my to get list!  I've been putting money away for a long time $20 here $40 there to add up to a new gun purchase, a little extra work put away a little extra money, never have been one to buy and sell like I change my pants....have looked at the Smiths but prices are higher and don't like the locks.....Charter Arms .22 have looked at......older H&R's in reasonble shape or better are out there but hard to come by in my area....will be a nice match to other Rugers.....I'm thinking the new SP will cost a bit over $500, how much we'll have to see......BUT I will be buying one!

The used 4" guns are selling for over $500 now days.  ;)  I have 3 sp101s. A 22lr, a 32H&R mag, & a 3" 327 mag. I believe they fit my hand the best of all my revolvers. I like them so well I've been thinking about selling all my smiths.

H&Rs are running close to $300 here, if not shot loose, and they will or the star and hand will be worn to a frazzle. I keep looking at them because Ive had a 999, a Dbl. Nine, 2 Longhorns and a little 932(?), all back when they were 'reasonable'. IMHO you need to spend a bit more and get more gun for your money unless you just want to have a cheap gun to have more than shoot. Sad but too true. A revolver is a mechanically intensive gun and Im tired of worn out stuff. I sure would take a Ruger SP101 if I was looking at that class of revolver.
You pays your money and you makes your choice, though.

I should wait and see if others are going to have any problems with this new .22. Now that I think back to when I first got my .357 SP101 and all of the problems I had with it and the factory having took 6 months to fix everything-I would hate to repeat that experience.

Been looking at 3 screw flat gate single sixes on gunbroker....they sure look nice.

I dont know about the flatgates for fit & finish, but my 3 screw SS is pretty nice, though not as good as my Colt's New Frontier .22 from the same timeframe. Both are similar in accuracy and trigger pull and seem comparable in mechanicals. The Colt's is just......nicer.
I guess the 101s are like everything else, some are (or have been) lemons. At least Ruger is still around and seems to stand behind their product pretty well.
