It's an old round Bill. Ruger introduced it in the Ruger Hawkeye a single shot version of the BH revolver. They are quite collectible these days. TC also chambered it as did Marlin in a lever gun. Not sure if anyone else did.

It's the .357 Magnum case necked to take 25 caliber bullets. It would be interested to hear the story of how he came by a revolver so chambered and how well it works.

Simple enough, Hamilton Bowen chambered it in that.  I like the odd ball stuff like this, so when I learned that he could do something like this, I jumped.   Shooting it is very similar to the .30 carbine in recoil and flame, but it zips that little round out there nicely.  Now I have something else I get to reload for.

The 256 sounds like it would a hoot to play with!  I like that.

I had forgotten that I said I would add this one so here is a plain ol' Mark II:

If people don't quit posting those Flat Top 44's, I'm going to have to find a way to finance one!  Mrbumps, that looks like a nice piece of gunleather, I like the lack of logo.  Who is the maker?

The holster with my Flat Top was made by Brett Park of Cicle KB.  It's their Big Game Hunter Holster.  The cartridge belt is generally set up to hold 6 rifle cartridges and 6 handgun cartridges, but I had them make them all handgun.

Tackle, it's a custom 45 colt. It's heavy-ish but it rests nicely in the hands and handles recoil too.

Ruger New Model .45 Colt with .45acp cylinder.
I reamed the .45 Colt cylinder to proper diameter, and put in  tighter cylinder pin.

I recently bought new grips for my BH 45 Colt 5.5" and my Single Six 9.5" guns. I have a new set coming from Ruger for my Lipsey's Bisley flat top 44 Special as well but they haven't arrived yet. Here are images of the new grips from Altamont.

Blackhawk in 256 Win Mag, with Single Six, gunsmithing by Hamilton Bowen, grips by Cary C.

Don't ya just love Bowen's stuff? I happened upon a 25-20 customized by him and i love it. I never took good pictures of it but just the same, I love it. I found it with Ajax stags too. The Blackhawk is a perfect companion to my Marlin 1894CL in 25-20.

All these fine Rugers have me drooling on the keyboard. Only three I have at this time are from bottom up are my stainless 45 Colt 4 5/8" old model Vaquero, Single Six that started life as a 5 1/2" and is now a 4 5/8" with birdshead frame and grips and my pride and joy on top is a Super Blackhawk Hunter in 45 Colt with a Bushnell Elite 3200 2x6x28 scope. My understanding is that only 600 of these were made. I hope to add a 4" Redhawk in 45 Colt to this group soon.

I have several Rugers, but here are a few of my favorites:

Tell me about the grips on this one??

They look similar in intent to the "Gunfighter" grips on the new Single 10. I.e they're flat rather than flared out towards the bottom. Have to admit, for the .22 that works nicely. Not sure how it would work out with something like a .44. The ones on the Single 10 have a very slight groove for your middle finger. I'm thinking that with higher powered rounds you might just want the grips to be smooth? But thinner and flat seems like a good idea. Least seems to point better for me. Have to admit I was surprised by that. I figured it was just some marketing BS that got out of the factory now that Bill is gone, ya know? Somehow I don't think Mr. Ruger would've approved of something trendy like that.
