And I'm sure they hold their vehicles to strict emissions standards in Mexico. No need to worry about the dreaded green house gases and global warming.

It will be interesting to see how many US trucks will operate within Mexico.

If you guys remember, in 1980 teens had 70% employment, today it is around 20%.  Then the do gooder liberals wanted to "protect" the childern.  A 17 year old boy can't get a job in construction in the summer now, they have to be 19.  Only jobs available for under 18 teenagers is hamburger flippers.  I have several contractors who used to hire teens in the summer to help with natural gas pipeline construction.  Now, they can't, so they went to young black men, who now can't pass a drug test, so they use hispanics, who can pass drug tests.  It is a shame the nanny state put teens out of work.  Most if they got a job young enough, learned the value of hard work and money.  It also kept them out of trouble and away from drugs.

Yep, and pipeline constructing isn't backbreaking work.  Trenchers, backhoes, and boring machines do most of the work.  There are welders helpers, pipe wrapping, some shoveling around other utilities so you equipment doesn't damage them.  Tightening bolts on valves, etc.  There is not pressure put on the new mains until it is finished, then air or air/nitrogen is introduced to test the pipeline at 1.5 times the maximum operating pressure.  Once it passes test with no leaks, then the utility puts the gas on the line.  It is hot sometimes working outside, but no heavy lifting.  Machines do all the heavy work.  You have to wear hard hats and steel toed shoes to keep from being bumped by a piece of pipe being lifted in place or if you drop something on your foot.  Some jobs are just standing on the highway directing traffic and flagging passing cars.  Drug tests are manditory when hired and randomly, even a contractor working for a utility.  Then the minimum age has to be 19.  16-18 year olds can work construction for some dumb reason, but they can play football.

I have talked with building contractors building homes.  They also can't hire anyone under 19.  They might get hurt by a 2x4 I guess.  Lots of summer jobs taken away from teenagers and given to hispanics.  If the government would allow our teens to go back to work, that would solve some illegal problems and teach the young kids about hard work.  Then half the young adults under 30 wouldn't be living at home.  They would learn about the real world early.

Yep, they will register their trucks at the nearest low tax state or now country.  Remember Ross Perot and the "Giant Sucking Sound" taking our jobs out of the country.  Well, it has arrived.  Economy is stagnant because we don't make anything anymore.  At least if we had factories here, when inventories get depleted, they would have been hiring back to go back into production and we would have been out of this recession by now regardless of who was in office.  Now, if inventories of items get depleted, we just import more from China.  Only so many jobs in infrastructure, government, utilities, teaching, medical, etc.  We have got to either be building homes, or making things to keep people working.  Also, manufacturing jobs provide health care insurance and pay taxes.  Hmmm, sounds like we need to be doing the opposite, bring factories back home.

The only reason we make foreign cars in this country is we have a law that was put in place in the late 70's or early 80's that says all vehicle companies which sell in America has to have at least 50% of the vehicle made here.  I know of a textile plant which recently closed and went overseas.  A friend of mine was a supervisor over 30 people in 1980 and sometimes ran 6-7 days a week.  During the 80's they installed new looms which were more automated and by 1990 he only had 8 employees and the factory could put out 8 times as much cloth and only ran 5 days a week.   Then after the free trade agreements of the 1990's, the factory decided to move overseas for cheaper labor.  Sewing and shoe making were the first to go, then other industries.

I therefore think we need some tarriffs or some protection to get some manufacturing jobs back home.  I think absolutely EVERYTHING the military needs should be made here period.  This would bring back some.  Then require all Federal and State governments to buy ONLY American made products.  I saw were California used a Chinese company to make prefab bridges for use in California instead of an American company and they have a high unemployment rate.  They said it was cheaper.  Might have been, but they didn't consider the trade off of unemployment benefits costs, food stamps, welfare, etc, with no income tax collected and no corporate tax from whoever made or built the bridges.

Really you can hire under 18 if they are a registered apprintace or a family member of the owners of the business. I know because I did/do both fed and state law. You cannot allow them to use power tools unless they are an appr.
