? for you Ruger S-Six guys
« on: July 14, 2011, 02:29:54 PM »
Did the Sgl Six ever come with a, undercut, flat-topped target style front sight blade as original or factory option?
If not who may have made such as a replacement?

Don't claim any expert status on Rugers but it sounds to me like someone took the front sight off a semiauto Ruger and stuck it on the Single Six. I've never seen the sight you mention on the revolver but have on the semiautos.

Ah! That makes sense......the typical ramp gives me trouble and the sight attracted me. I'll know more tonight as I will likely have the piece.
I had never seen such either, but I have not been paying more than casual attention to Rugers.
Looks like it should work great (except for pulling out of a holster).

It be mine!
Turns out to be a 3 screw, 5 1/2", round gate with what does look like a 1 screw mount Ruger Mk? front; a nice target sight picture for me.
Sad part is that it must have sat in a damp basement or such and has some surface rust, but no real bad deep pits. That is what made it affordable for me, though and I can pretty it up.
All in all, Im a pretty happy guy today  ;D .

Ruger will refinish it pretty economically to factory new condition. Since they believe in returning things to as issued condition they might not return that front sight so ya might want to remove it if you send it in assuming you want to keep it.

I had a patridge front put on my Single Six.

Also be aware that Ruger will retrofit your 3 screw with the hammer block safety if it has not already been done.   Some people feel that this retrofit compromises the SS's trigger and detracts from a collector pieces value.

P.S.: If your gun has not been retrofitted with the hammer block safety be sure to only load 5 rounds and rest the hammer on the empty chamber.

Yes guys, Im aware of these points, but the shipping is prohibitive and negates their reasonable refinish cost and I just cant bring myself to send something away!, and I rather like the pre-TB action.
A little more online research and a call from a friend indicates that the Super Sgl. Six (having the adj. rear sight, as this does) had an undercut front ramp/blade option! I Googled 'Ruger Super Single Six' and found a site with pics, some of these so equiped included. Im even more happy now  ;D ;D .
A good soak of surface of the steel with Kroil last night and an hour of careful brass scraper on the surface rust today has resulted in a quite good looking finish. I am SOOO glad the fellow did not go after this with a wire wheel or even steel wool, like so many guys do. A rub down with Ballistol now, and just use and properly care for it and it will be fine. It really seems to have had little use and the Ruger medallions are the 'flat, black eagle' type' and XR3-RED frame so this seems to be a post '64 (SSS, adj. sight) /pre TB '72. Hope the fellow can come up with the .22M cylinder (he has my number), but I dont 'need' it and it may have never come with one.
A classy 'old' gun with a good home, what could be better!
P.S.: Im still open to questions, comments or corrections on any of this 'info' from you Ruger gents with more experience, Im newish to these.

That sounds like a special Bisley for sure, Lloyd!, though a lot newer than my humble revolver.
I note you say 'had'........for all the looks and promise, did it not live up to your expectations?
