Ruger 5.5" Bull MKIII Target Model 22/45
« on: July 15, 2011, 07:09:54 PM »
Hey ya'll! She surprised me with a new Ruger MKIII 22/45 Target Model today as a belated DadsDay present! Not thrilled with the magazine disconnect, and the lack of the ability to switch grip panels, or the trigger. LOVE the gun though. I know, she shouldnt have. ::)  Anyway, who has one, what will yhey print, anything I may want to be aware of, or anything else, I would appreciate the info! Thanx in advance

No problems with mine. I adjusted the sights to suit me because I don't care for a 6 o'clock hold. Off hand shooting, its pepsi cans at 40'. It appears to be real accurate. I never have used it on a bench rest, so I can't comment on group sizes.
I shoot CCI mini-mags in all my .22's. I like it.

The magazine disconnect is easy to fix with a couple of parts from Brownells at a cost of around $50. You'll also see a marked improvement in the trigger pull with this mod. I posted the part #s here several months ago. If interested, perhaps a search will bring it up. The Rugers are a great bargin in a .22 auto!

I have 2 of them. My wife claimed my 5.5 Target model so I bought me a 6 7/8" SS Hunter. I changed the front site on the Target model (to fiber optic) and put a Volquartsen Accurizing Kit (trigger kit) in both along with the Volquartsen Mark II Hammer Spacer (bypasses that stupid mag safety).

Well, the triggers are AMAZING! They are fully adjustable for take-up and over travel. And need I say, very crisp!

I am no gunsmith, by any means. I watched a couple You Tube videos and did it myself. Look around on You Tube to see what I am talking about and order yours. I bought mine at MidwayUSA.

Good luck and I am looking forward to your range report.

Cheers!

I have that one. Shoots about 3" at 25 yds with my hand steadied on the bench, using 53 year old eyes.  Shoots better with a Burris Fastfire in place of the rear sight; minute of rabbit at about 40 yards resting on the sideview mirror of my Jeep.
