I was in Petland yesterday and I noticed they carried antler chews. These would make awesome powder measures.

These were fairly long tip sections. You could probably even make a patch knife handle with one.

deer or Elk? I've seen some antler lamps, stands, light fixtures, etc. Recently most have been plastic, but some were from "game farms" that harvest and sell the meat, hides, and "horns" to the highest bidder. Personally I do not agree with the practice of domesticating wildlife, but really don't have a "beef" either

I believe they were deer. Frequently Boy Scouts gather sheds and sell them to companies that make things out of them.

I save any antler material for fastners on pouches, powder measures, handles, etc.. Can't have too much of it so it looks like a trip to Petland. Need some media for my tumbler anyway. Thanks Swampman.

I saw the some in a local pet shop recently too. They were pretty weathered looking.

potassium permanganate or brown leather dye can be used to age bone and antler.

i wouldn't think they'd chemically age them for people's little pets to chew on. don't think the furry little varmints would care what they look like anyway. my opinion and you're welcome to it.

Our local shop has them, and they don't look at all aged and certainly aren't sheds. These must have been the tips of elk antler or some such, as they were too large for white tail.
