suggested target double action revolver 22LR?

Any suggestions regards a double action 22LR revolver for casual target shooting?
I'm looking for the above.I'd prefer a double action that takes speedloaders[for cold weather usage-I'd preload the speedloaders before going outdoors],probably 6-8"iron sighted barrel,possibly stainless.
I welcome your suggestions.

In the .22 DA revolvers I don't think you can beat S&W I like the model 17 & 617. I like the 6" barrels even though a 8 3/8" m17 is my best shooter. I would also like to try a Colt Diamondback but don't think that they are worth what most people are asking for them.

I think if you can find a Smith M17 you will never be disappointed. I had one until my Wife fell in love with it, I still get to buy ammo for it and clean it. If you find the original grips to be too small, S&W K-Frame target grips work well and they are very nice to look at.

I'm waiting on the new Ruger SP101.  It's supposed to be offered for sale in August.

I have the Ruger with a 4 inch bbl. Its a very nice field gun and informal target gun cans and such. On paper its not as accurate as a S&W built as a target gun. I don't know what the new ones will bring to the range though mine is an older one.

Colt made some nice double action target revolvers in 22 (and others). The Diamondback of course but there was another like a smaller Colt Trooper. But who can afford Colts anymore? I did see a nice Colt 32-20 DA at the gun store the other day for a reasonable price.

S&W 617 = stainless steel target grade revolver w/target sights & trigger, available w/6"bbl.

I found a used S&W model 617 with a 6 inch barrel. for $500. Looked to be in excellent condition. I tried it out today and was amazed at the accuracy. I have owned a few other 22s but nothing ever came even close to the Smith & Wesson. I would pay double for a S&W. It is well worth it. You will get much more than double the enjoyment from it! I can finally actually hit something with a handgun.

I have had a coule of S&W M17's and  they are hard to beat.  The 6 " I have now has all the target bells and whistles on it is I really like it.
I tried the HKS speed loader thing and they do not work.  The 22 Mag works but the 22LR are too short to work well.  Just load them.
If you want to carry spare ammo ready to go buy an auto matic and carry an extram mag or two.

I would also suggest the S&W M17 or stainless equivalent.  I have used one for nearly 4 decades and while I have had others, (a Colt Diamondback comes to mind) it is the one I have kept.  Most speedloaders are a bit of a pain for this small of a cartridge.  I just keep loose rounds in my pocket or if at a competition, I keep them in bloacks.
 
Some casual shooters I know, use a magazine for the Ruger auto pistol to carry spare ammo.  I have tried this and it did not work for me in 22 caliber.   (I do however use a 1911 magazine to carry spare rounds for my M25-2 but that is for another thread.)

Never thought of using an auto mag as a speed loader for the revolver.  I am headed to the garage to see if I can use the two together.  Thaks for the idea.

It worked pretty good for me.  Did the standard Double action empty dump and with the revolver in the left hand used the Buck mark mag wit hmy thumb on the Spring knob to allow one round at a time out and into the cylinder.  Should speed up my reloading at a falling plate shoot next month.  Thanks.

Get yourself a pre-1940 H&R Sportsman - 9 shot speed loaders are available and work very well with the top break action.  The couple Sportsman from that era that I routinely shoot, will out shoot my S&W Model 63 with regard to accuracy and is a bit larger and easier to steady and aim - and the Sportsman will cost 60% of what the S&W runs.

+1 on the S&W 617....They are the best Ive ever shot. The 63 and the new Ruger sp101 are better field carry/kit guns. I love them all........

Yep, the K-22 is a good choice if you can find one priced right.

 
I've got the original grips put away.  I find that I can shoot more accurately with the larger target grips.

How much do you want to spend?  New or used?   The S&W 617 is a fine choice, something smaller in the hand the M 63.   The new Ruger SP 101 in nice and priced lower, lowest price on new might be a Charter Arms Pathfinder.
Of course used there are many fine Smiths out there, then the H&R and a few others if you can find them in good condition.
