That was the title of an American Rifleman article by Wiley Clapp which purports to be a "test" of the new .410 shotshells designed expressly for the Judge revolver. But Mr. Clapp failed in the most basic "test" of any ammunition. He simply quoted the factory claimed velocity numbers without any "test" to confirm them. Maybe that could be overlooked but for the fact that some of the numbers defy belief.
Two of the loads "tested" claim velocity and energy numbers clearly NOT POSSIBLE from a .410 revolver. One Federal load claims a muzzle energy of 921 ft.lb. and one Remington load claims 1,081 ft.lb. Those energies exceed any standard listed factory load for the .41 magnum and most standard factory loads from the .44 magnum. And those magnums didn't get their ballistics from a 3" revolver either.
Considering that magnum handgun rounds operate at roughly three times the pressure allowed for .410 shotshells, how can anyone believe a 3" revolver firing .410 shotshells can exceed, or even come close to the ballistics of a .44 magnum with much longer barrel? Ridiculous!
Does any handgunner here believe that?
