Far too many today are ashamed of the gospel of Christ, and spend more time aplogizing for it than proclaiming it.

Considering what other Christian organizations and churches are doing, it makes a lot of sense.  Not really different than some of the churches and ministries having names like The Bridge or The Well. The point is to reach the lost. If the name change will allow them to develop relationships with a community of unbeliievers that leads to changed lives, then its a good thing.
The difference between people who do stuff and people who don't do stuff is that the people who do stuff do stuff.

when you face God for judgement, Christ will plead your case like a lawyer in court.  but if you have removed him from any little part of your life, you are doomed because God will not hear your case.
no man comes to the Father except by Jesus. remove his name at your own peril.

Well... I think we should bear in mind Jesus' directions to treat others and we want to be treated.

Quote
The National Association of Evangelicals (NAE), which represents numerous Pentecostal denominations and charismatic fellowships, denounced Jones' actions in a recent statement. "The NAE calls on its members to cultivate relationships of trust and respect with our neighbors of other faiths. God created human beings in His image, and therefore all should be treated with dignity and respect," the statement said.
Contrary to what Jones and his followers believe, Jesus Christ condemned hateful religious intolerance. When He and His disciples entered a Samaritan village, and the Samaritans were less than hospitable, James and John told Jesus they wanted to call down fire from heaven on the whole place (see ).
Jesus flatly rebuked them, saying: "You do not know what kind of spirit you are of; for the Son of Man did not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them" (v. 55-56, NASB).

Notice that James and John were eager to strike a match and conduct their own vengeful bonfire. In their immaturity they thought they could advance Christ's kingdom by fighting fire with fire. But Jesus contradicted their misdirected zeal and showed them that when we are opposed, the only way to win is through patience, compassion and forgiveness.

When Jesus was about to be arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane, an impetuous Peter came to His rescue and sliced off a slave's right ear. Jesus immediately healed the poor guy (don't you love the fact that Jesus can fix our stupid blunders?) and then rebuked Peter's crazed militarism by saying: "Put your sword back into its place; for all those who take up the sword shall perish by the sword" ().

Jesus never carried protest signs or staged book-burnings. If that had been His strategy, His disciples would have marched through Jerusalem with placards that said: "PROSTITUTION IS OF THE DEVIL," "UNFAIR TAXATION IS OF THE DEVIL" or "CAESAR WORSHIP IS OF THE DEVIL." All those sins are truly devilish, but you can't change people's behavior by condemning their actions.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

I guess that's why I quit going to church, at least until there is one close by that seems not so political.  Not sure if they are reaching out for "the lost" or something else...governments are not the only thing turning to politics you know.  The entire county is going to crap, churches are no exception, people make them the way people want them.

yes, Jesus was no wimp. the old testament describes him as not pleasant to look upon.
so I would imagine that he was a large rough looking man. he kicked butt in the temple.
also a wimp would not have caused men to lay down their livlihood and follow him and don't forget, he didn't jump in his F150 to go from town to town, so yes he was tough.

The question was about what fellow Christians on this forum thought about this Org. changing it's name, and Omitting Christ's name.
It was not about how Jesus looked or how macho he was, or if he owned a 150 Ford P/U A couple answered the question and several started the old flaming game again.Stick to the subject of the thread and keep the little petty, personal bickering out of it.

Yellow; .. Your eclecticism is nothing short of amazing ! You seem to glide through the Bible, only choosing to believe those verses which you agree with.  God's word doesn't work that way!

Iron, you can aim that charge at most Christians.  And, from what I have seen, the more "fundamentalist" they are, the more likely they are to pick and choose.

Jesus certainly was no whimp. He stated he could call 10 legions of angels to free him if he chose. Instead he took an incredible beating (Isaiah 53) He was bruised for our transgressions and by his stripes we are healed. At any point he chose he could have gotten off the cross and walked away just merely by the power of His own Name. When the soldiers cam to arrest him they asked if he was Jesus he replied I am he and they fell down. Jesus loved us so much he contained his power and suffered at our hands that we might be reconciled to Father God. Now that is not the action of a whimp that is the action of a very very tough, loving, compasionate older Brother. That's my older brother by the way. Anyone or church that denies Jesus as the true Messiah, Savior, Lord of Lords, King of Kings, the Living Son of God are not Father Gods children. Since I am a child of Father God that makes Jesus my older brother. Yes I will hide behind my older brother. He knows full well of my weakness and failures but loves me anyway.
Oh what was the OP anyway? Well never mind Jesus is awesome, if you don't know him you should just ask. I'll be happy to tell you about him. He will accept you just as you are.
