RIP Kerry... father, husband, friend, mentor...
« on: July 22, 2011, 03:31:20 AM »
My father lost his 3 year battle with cancer on April 19, 2011.  I miss him dearly, and think of him everyday.  He could fix just about anything and always asked for my "help" when I was a kid.  I learned so much from him over the years.  He taught me to love the outdoors and the definition of an honest day's work.

He passed away at home surrounded by loved ones.  My folks live on 200 acres that my father loved so much.  He was in a coma towards the end, and spring turkey season opened on April 18.  I decided he would want me to go out and bag a bird.  I told him I was going to hunt and to hang in there.  I hit the trail that leads towards his deer stand and heard tons of gobbles.  I setup and called a bit.  They were gobbling but not getting closer.  I said to myself, "c'mon dad, let's go get 'em".  Like a ninja, I moved down the trail over the next hill and setup again.  I called one time, and the biggest bird I ever saw was about 40 yards away.  BOOM!!!!   Big Tom down.  10" beard and 1.5" spurs.  I will never forget that hunt.  I miss my father everyday, but he goes hunting with me everytime.

Rest in Peace Dad.... God Bless You

Your Dad and my Dad sound like the same man... My Dad is aging fast now, but still have him on this side of eternity. Blessings to you and yours, and thanks for this post. It meant a lot to me and reminded me again to cherish each day/hunt we spend together.
