rear sights adjustment

I have a NEF 44 mag with open sights adjusting the rear sights up and down the screw has clicks like a scope how much does each click rase or lower the shot group at 50 or 100 yards

I'm not sure. Is it the sight that mounts in the scope base holes? I have one on my BC, but I don't know the MOA per click. I would get the make and model and look it up on the manufacturer's web site. Iron sights can be a PITA.

Best way to find out is shoot it and see!   Maybe Brian56 knows, that's the old style H&R sight, I have several H&Rs with them, but have never used them, haven't been able to shoot barrel sights for years.

they are factory sights mounted to the barrel in front of the scope mount

I dunno who made it, they're marked with 8A on the bottom, they've only been referred to as an H&R proprietary sight, someone made them for H&R, maybe Brian knows. You could check it by turning the elevator screw to see how much one turn moves it, and refer to Brownell's sight calculator(FAQs) for more info. But shooting it would be the easiest way to find out, more fun too!

You have to shoot it to play with it anyway.......and to sight in for where you want it. It will be easy enough in the doing of that to keep track of your shots and how much higher and/or lower they go.
FWIW, IIRC through the years with a number of rifles Ive found the steps in adj. sides and graduation lines to go about 1'" change to POI at 50ish yds. on the 'simpler' types of open sights.

Sounds like a perfect reason to start reloading with a Lee Classic Loader, for the cost of couple boxes of ammo, you could have a good start on a lot more shooting for less money, not quite as inexpensive as the dated article, but still less.

Yep start reloading, everybody holds and shoulders a gun different what might be 1" at 50 yrds. might be 1.5 or 2" for me or 3" at 100yrds. Like gcrank said you have to shoot it to play with it.

Jacks, I dunno if Brian contacted you, but he sent me a message, he found in his records that each click is ¼" at 50yds, let us know whatcha find out when you shoot it.

Hi Gentlemen,

It's been a while since I have been on here. This post got my attention because I like the handi iron sights. I guess my eyes still work well with them, I'm good with them out to 75+ yards. The last time I was out shooting my 45-70 handi, the rear blade and spring that holds it in place was gone. I must have knocked it out by accident. I have been looking for a new rear sight replacement. I didn't realize that H&R had changed the rear sight design. I apologize if I stepped on this post.

H&R has been using the Williams WGOS barrel sight for the last 6-7yrs, since about 2004 IIRC.
