Big Boy Sight Removal/UPdate 8/2
« on: July 22, 2011, 10:04:41 AM »
I need to remove the rear sight on my 357 Big Boy. Any tricks you have would be appreciated.
I soaked the base of the dovetail in Kroil and it came out with about 10 light taps. I did backout the screw on the top of the dovetail a couple of turns. the Henry re said it wasn't necessary but would make it easier. I'm boresighted and ready to go.

I'm not sure if the sight set up is the same as my henery 22 mag but mine had a dove tail rear sight on the barrel. I removed the sight ramp then useing a piece of brass the diameter of a pencil tapped the sight out of the dovetail slot. A small tac hammer is all I used to tap on the brass with, it was in there pretty good so I had to brace the rifle in a padded vice.  The brass will not scratch any surfaces but you will have to remove the surface residue it deposits. I'm sure there is a gunsmithing tool for this made but I made use of what I had.
