Barrel Here!
« on: January 03, 2004, 07:39:22 AM »
OK gents.  It came today. It is 14'' Contender in 223, and it has one place for a screw.  It is about 6-8" from where the barrel connects to the frame.  So which fore arm do I need?  Some one said a Pachmyre, but I would rather have wood.  So will a fore arm with 2 screws work, or need a carbine one. Any further suggestions are appreciated.

Is the barrel tapered or full bull?  Sounds like someone cut off an old one-dovetail carbine barrel.

It don't sound right.  I haven't ever seen a barrel come with one lug.

Its my guess that contendernut has it pegged.   Early 21" tapered barrels only had one forend dovetail.   Don't recall any factory 14" barrels ever coming that way.   Going to make it fun to hang a forend on, and with no chance of floating it.   Sounds like it'll need another dovetail cut to match an appropriate 2 screw forend.

One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

It is a tapered barrel, that started out as a 21" carbine barrel that was cut down to 14" and an 11 degree recesed crown put back on.  All I need is a fore arm now and was looking at two on ebay.  one for a 14-16" and one for 16" carbine.  Woukd one of these work??

you can use any carbine forend, that means the ones made for 16 and 21 inch barrels, with your barrel, you will only use the front screw to hold it on.  If you want you can have another dovetail cut into the barrel and another estuchon installed so that you can use the back hole also, you may or may not need that, depends upon how it shoots with one screw.

good luck with your barrel,
