New (to me) FA 83 in 500 JRH
« on: July 27, 2011, 07:42:35 AM »
It is here! 6 inch octagon, micarta gripped 500WE with a 500JRH cylinder.  500 JRH brass in hand. FA needs a rear sight change and a Ken O'Neill front blade.   :D

What would you want for that Hi Viz front blade, assuming you'd want to sell it when you change it out.

I usually like to hold on to stuff like that.  While my bullseye head likes square and black I can't argue that there are times when a bright dot can come in handy...

What is a .500 JRH?

A 1.4" case, shortened from a .500 S&W case, with the rim trimmed so it will fit into a FA 83. A creation of Jack Huntington of JRH Advanced Gunsmithing in California. Powerwise, think of it as a .500 Wyoming Express or .50 caliber .500 Linebaugh... or for that matter, in the same power league as a .475 Linebaugh.
The BFR is now the only factory chambered gun in the .500 JRH. All others are custom jobs.

It was originally, when Zeus owned it. So many of mine wore black micarta that I sold that set to Robert Fanucci, and had these fitted at the factory. If they had been offering ivory micarta at that time, I'd probably have selected it.

yup i had those useless express sights on a 475 i bought. they didnt stay on there long. Dave clements makes a nice replacement front blade that works well with the fa premier rear.

I keep spares of the three blades that Ken makes on hand at all times.

Axehandle, did Jack rechamber an existing FA cylinder of a smaller caliber, or fabricate a new one? I'm guessing the former.

The seller had no insight into the history of this one.  Since a full up Jack Huntington custom came out of the same set we all figure that Jack did the work on this one too.  The cylinder has the serial number of some other FA on it.  Lord only know where it came from..  You missing one?   ::)
