Racism or just selective about friends and aquaintances???
« on: July 28, 2011, 09:15:05 AM »
Lots of comments about racism in different boards, forums and threads... which led me back to a conversation in my office this morning.  I finally got most of the guys in my office to understand that I'm not a racist.  I don't give a flyin' flip if you are black, hispanic, asian, european, green, white, red, black or friggin' purple.  I only like people like me.  I keep my place up.  I keep my cars up.  My house is neat and clean.  My kids are polite, fairly well dressed and well mannered.  I don't play my stereo loud in my car.  I don't openly flaunt laws (except the speed limit at times).  I don't curse excessively or loudly in public.  You can't see my butt-crack when I walk down the street.  I have a job, sometimes two and I give a fair days work for my pay.  I'm fiscally, socially and politically conservative although not necessarily Republican.  I'm an evangelical christian.  I like to hunt, fish and eat meat.  I wear leather and would wear fur if South Texas wasn't on the doorstep of hell temperature wise. I just sort of expect the same from everyone else regardless of color, heritage, religion or station in life. If you don't fit in to my little narrow mould, then I probably won't like you.  I jokingly say that I'm an "equal opportunity hater".  If you are trash you are trash, doesn't matter the color, ethnicity, nationality or religion.  So does that make me a racist?

Besides if you are a white male ( I have no idea what you are BTW) you are automaticly a racist , don't believe me ? check out the  news spinners. Its dangerous to have these thoughts , you may need re educating and sensitivity traning .  :o

What you have very nicely described is the difference between the "melting pot" concept and "multi-culturalism".  In the melting pot of America, that worked very well for awhile, people from different backgrounds, languages, and countries came together, assimilated and adopted a unifying set of values and ideals and called themselves, "Americans."  Today, those that profess "multi-culturalism" demand that the assimilated American citizens welcome any and all from anywhere; legal or illegal; pander to their foreign values, languages, and demands; and grant them entitlement benefits at the expense of those who were willing to work for and earn them.  If I am not mistaken, the motto on American currency, "E Pluribus Unum" means "from many, one" not "take from the many to be mine".

no your just a well mannered, caring person. Just like most  black, hispanic, asian, european, green, white, red, black or friggin' purple and gay people are. It's the bad ones that ruin it for the rest- as usual.

I totally concur with all the above!  Being a prime example of the 'melting pot' species, I get really torqued when cretins start yelling 'RACIST' at anyone who does not sink to their level and exhibit their flaws as they do.  It is actually funny when they start bawling that crap and expect people like me to cow down and suffer their verbal bile.
And get the surprise of their life when I return volley just as fervently.
They don't like it?

Do you hunt/shoot or fish? If yes we are  probably friends.
Now what was the rest of the question?

I spend a good amount of time in the Caribbean.  The people of color there are the nicest, most well mannered people I have ever come across. When I return to the states, I realize how ill mannared and rude some Americans are, regardless of color or religion.

If you hate someone else because of their color, its racism.  But segregating yourself to those around you who are like you in the way they live and act is just human nature - putting you in your comfort zone, so to say.  When I worked law enforcement, I worked with a fair number of black and Hispanic agents.  They in no way, other then race, had anything in common with the gang banging, baggy pants, color flying thugs of the same color we used to have to deal with.   Want to see a black agent get PO'd?  Just watch what happens when some black gangster tries to pull the "come on bro" line with him..

Its really about surrounding yourself with people who live the same decent lifestyle as yourself, not color.

Well, I pretty much have to say that everything NGH said, pretty well describes me, with the exception of hating some. I hate no one, and would say that there are some I have no use for, but do not hate.
As for xd40sc throwin queers into the mix (which I find odd), I don't hate them either, but I don't want to socialize in any way with them either. I'll witness to them if their interested in changing, but detest their "sodomite lifestyle" which to me is sin, in a most vile form.
With all that being said, the key to this issue is political correctness, and categorizing everyone for the sake of making political correctness actually work. Which it does not.

your correct, but the lesson still applies.  I'll probable hear about their life style. But if you stick to the original post and they fit that profile, I have no problem with them. I have some as friends and perfer to be with them than with heterosexuals that curse outloud, use the F-bomb around women and children, keep their properties a mess, have junk cars as lawn ornaments , don't work, etc. Now all the homophobes will start their biblical references.

I spent 24 years in the military, during that period I worked and lived with every race, color and creed; many of those folks are good friends today.  I also have an intense dislike for some people, not because of their race, color or creed, simply because their character, actions or beliefs are grossly contrary to mine.

I have been called racist.  And sometimes its hard to not lump everyone of a similar race, religion, or culture together when you meet so many people that hold up to the stereotypes.  But I give everyone I meet the benefit of the doubt and the chance to show me who they are.

I don't dislike anyone for the color of their skin. But I do dislike people for what they carry in their hearts and minds. Liberals carry jealousy and theft within their parasitic hearts, that is why I would never stoop to knowingly help one.

In the carb. they have to be nice you are their meal ticket. Same in places in Canada . even here most can be nice when they want your money. When a clerk is rude they are to comfortable in their job and reward.

I have met some really rude people in Quebec. In Carribean, they are nice because they are. Not everyone I talk to has a money angle. Just a different culture. Well mannered and easy going.

concerning gays in this conversation, the girl across the street is a lesbian but when she sees my wife and I sitting out in the swing, here she comes to confab.  she knows that I abhor her sin, but not her.
she is anti gun and knows that I have one on my side, but she doesn't mention it any more.
make your position known early and the non-militant gays will keep their mouth shut.

The non-militant gays are just like the non-militant anyone else. It's the militants[ no matter what kind] that give all the others a bad rep. The fact that she knows your position and still wants to be friendly, says alot about her charter. To bad there are those who treat gays like they had some plague and refuse to even talk with them. Glad to hear you aren't one of them.
